Harry 'Opie' Winston was a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original on the FX original series Sons of Anarchy. Played by American actor Ryan Hurst, Opie makes his debut in the series' premiere episode, "Pilot", in season one, playing a recurring role throughout the same and subsequent seasons until season five, where he meets his demise.

Appearance and Style[]

Opie is a large and burly man, standing at an impressive 6'4", he towers over most of his brothers in the club. Opie is young, roughly the same age as his best friend, Jax and he is in good physical shape. He often kept medium to long thick brown hair, which was either loose, in a ponytail or a bun, and a beard. Opie has numerous tattoos on his upper body. The right side of his neck reads "Gracie", this was a stock tattoo and it has no meaning. On his left shoulder, he has a tattoo of his late wife, Donna, with her name written below. After Donna's death in 2008, angel wings were added to this piece. Below this on his forearm, he has a portrait of his two children. He also has some Latin lettering on the same arm reading "tantum-deus", roughly translating to "Only God". On the opposite arm on his shoulder he has a large dark circle with intricate designs and the word "SAMCRO" in the centre. Along his collarbones and top of his chest he has "The center cannot hold", "Anarchy is the only hope" and an anarchy symbol separating the two phrases; directly below this he also has a reaper. Hurst states this tattoo was inspired by a poem and song lyrics. On either side of his ribs, he has a large black demon, identical on both sides. Perhaps most noticeably, he also had a large Sons of Anarchy insignia on his back. Opie's final tattoo he received was around 2011, a moth tattooed on his throat. Hurst states that most of the tattoos were designed and chosen by him.

Opie wears a variety of upper body clothing, ranging from dark coloured flannel shirts, dark tshirts and often an additional black leather jacket. He frequently also dons a black beanie with black sunglasses. Opie always wears blue or black baggy jeans, accompanied by a black leather belt with a bronze skull and crossbones buckle. Opie always wears black boots. Hanging off his belt is two silver chains which feeds in to his back pocket and a brown leather scabbard containing a hunting knife. Opie wears numerous silver rings, they depict a Sons reaper, a large black jewel with silver around the edge, and a crucifix with four skulls in each corner. Opie never wore a wedding band, despite being married twice. A thick chainlink silver bracelet with the word "victorious" engraved on it's many loops was worn on his left wrist.

Opie's kutte also has a generous amount of customisability displayed. He has a custom golden Sons reaper badge which he wears above his "Redwood Original" flash. He wears a "Men of Mayhem" flash on the upper right of his kutte and wears his "Sons of Anarchy" flash at the bottom right; Opie also sports a unique flash reading "Charming, CA" on the bottom left of his kutte.

Biography[]

His father, Piney, was also a member of the club and one of the First 9. He was best friends with the club's former President, Jackson "Jax" Teller and just finished a 5 year prison sentence in the Chino State Penitentiary. He fathered 2 children with his deceased wife, Donna Winston, and later marries Lyla Winston, a pornstar employed by Luann Delaney, the owner of Cara Cara and wife of Otto "Big Otto" Delaney. Like Jax, the club was in his blood; it's the only life and family he had ever known. Opie was killed in San Joaquin County Correctional Facility. After a brutal beating and fatal blow to the back of the head, he met his demise in the Season 5 episode "Laying Pipe". He is seen once more, as a corpse, in the series' subsequent episode, "Stolen Huffy", in the same season.

Opie's most powerful trait was his unbreakable loyalty towards SAMCRO and his best friend, Jax. Even after spending five years in jail for the club, he was willing to do anything to help the Sons. After his release from prison, Opie was torn between leaving the club and becoming a family man or staying with SAMCRO and risking his life and freedom once again. He eventually chose to stay in the club and, after the death of his wife, he completely alienated his children, out of grief.

Opie, though seemingly gentle, has a vicious streak, as he savagely beat Tig when he confessed to be responsible for Donna's murder, and went on to threaten Agent Stahl for it, making her believe he was going to kill her. However, he revealed his gun was empty, telling her to remember that "the outlaw had mercy," causing her to break down after he left. He later killed her in the same way Tig killed Donna.

Opie ultimately sacrificed himself for the club, and for Jax, not wanting his best friend to die.

Season 1[]

"Pilot"[]

We first meet Opie, a lumberjack by day and on and off member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club who has recently been released from prison on club related crimes. His best friend and Vice President of the club, Jax, is attempting to convince him to assist the club in raiding a warehouse belonging to rival club, the Mayans; after they raided the Son's warehouse and stole their guns. Opie is at first reluctant, telling Jax that he is "earning straight" now after he promised his wife, Donna Winston, that he was done with the club life. Opie is eventually convinced after admitting to Jax that he is in a lot of debt.

At the table, the club go over the situation with the Nordics, a white supremacist gang and their plan to retrieve their guns. They are joined at the table by Opie, and Happy Lowman, a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Tacoma charter. Piermont "Piney" Winston, Opie's father and co-founder of the club speaks up and congratulates Jax on the birth of his son, and they are all here for him if they need him.

Later that day, the club put the finishing touches to their plan to raid the Mayan warehouse and retrieve their guns. Clay is impressed with the club's work.

Donna later catches Opie filling his bag with explosives and she is upset and furious to learn he is working with the club again. Jax overhears their argument and tells Opie he shouldn't go to the raid and he will explain to club President, Clarence "Clay" Morrow that Opie had to take his kid to the emergency room. Opie mentions to Jax that he wonders why he didn't talk to him about his son being born. Jax admits that he didn't know what to say, and still doesn't.

"Seeds"[]

Clay announces that the gun deal with the Niners has finally gone through, giving the club a decent chunk of change. Juice soon arrives and says that Deputy Chief David Hale has a warrant to search one of the Sons' warehouses where they store guns.

Opie is still broke and his family is facing a lot of debt, Donna assures him that everything will be okay. Opie meets Piney and asks him to borrow some money. Piney tells his son he can't lend him any but Clay is doing a protection run tonight for Chief Wayne Unser which will score him some easy cash, Opie is doubtful but Piney tells him to start facing his issues.

We later see Opie and Clay talking about their history. He has agreed to do the run for some easy cash. Clay later betrays Unser, instead selling his cargo to Jimmy Cacuzza, an Italian mobster who the Sons work closely with, to ensure he doesn't attempt to partner with anyone else. Opie also tells Clay he is back in the club.

"Giving Back"[]

Jax and Opie are clearing out Opie's garage looking for baby gear in preparation for Jax's son to come home from the hospital. Donna learns that Opie is assisting at the charity fundraiser led by Jax's mother, Gemma Teller Morrow. Donna is sceptical of both Gemma and the fundraiser but Opie insists it isn't a "club thing".

At the table, Clay and Jax propose a deal bought to them by Otto "Big Otto" Delaney, an imprisoned member of SAMCRO and a man he has been protecting inside, Charles "Chuckie" Marstein, a former associated of the Lin Triad who hustled them for $400,000. Chuckie wants protection in exchange for SAMCRO getting cut in on the deal. Jax explains that they will split the money with Chuckie, 25% to the club, 25% for Otto which will go to Luann Delaney, his wife. Everyone is in agreement of the deal, despite Bobby explaining it will be dangerous as Henry Lin, the leader of the Lin Triad is ruthless.

Clay brings one more item to the table, April Hobart, a SAMCRO associate has asked for her ex-husband Kyle Hobart to attend Gemma's Taste of Charming fundraiser being held tomorrow. Kyle was excommunicated from SAMCRO after letting Opie get arrested nearly 10 years ago. There is some disagreement but Opie is surprisingly happy to allow Kyle to come, stating that Kyle has nothing left in his life after being kicked out of the club and his family leaving him. There is some disagreement but the vote eventually passes.

At the fair, Jax briefly catches up with Opie, Opie tells Jax that Donna doesn't know who Kyle really is and that he is the reason he went to prison. Opie notes that Kyle seems to be doing alright for himself, as he has a new girlfriend. Jax ushers Opie away.

Jax finds Opie again and catches up with him. Opie admits he only wanted Kyle to come to see how miserable he is, but he seems happy being able to see his kids again and now he has a new life away from Charming. The pair continue to watch Kyle as he takes off his jacket, causing his shirt to ride up and his back to be exposed, Jax and Opie are horrified to see that Kyle still has his large SAMCRO back tattoo, the exact same one that Opie and Jax have. Club rules state that excommuniated members are supposed to have all tattoos blacked out. They both stand and Opie insists he will handle it.

Opie follows Kyle in to an empty hall and Kyle immediately says that he has done what Jax has asked, staying away from everyone. Opie begins to remove his rings and he tells Kyle they need to settle some things. Kyle says he meant to come to prison to speak to Opie but it didn't seem right, before he has time to finish his sentence, he is slugged across the face by Opie and knocked to the floor.

He confronts Kyle and they begin to fight.

Jax tracks down Opie and Kyle, who have just finished beating on each other and settling old beef. Kyle admits that he misses the club life and the respect and money it bought him. Jax asks Kyle again about the stolen vehicle parts he mentioned earlier, Jax says they can bring it to Clay if Kyle hangs around tonight and he agrees, saying he can hear his son's band play some other time.

The club at the charity event learn from Clay that they are going to pick up the Chinese money right now, Opie and Kyle head back to the clubhouse whilst Jax, Tig and Bobby link up with the rest of the club.

Back at the clubhouse, Opie learns that Kyle's treachery will be taken care off. He leaves to go and finish up with Gemma at the fundraiser.

"AK-51"[]

At the table, with the club whole again. Juice has returned from Nevada and Chibs has returned from up North. Chibs brings news about their Irish contacts and explains they need to pay them on time or they will buy from the Russians instead. The Sons will also continue to sell guns to the Niners at a discounted price. Jax and Piney also made a sale of some weapons to a local militia earlier in the day.

Half-Sack suddenly bursts in to Church and tells Clay he is needed outside. The club head outside and find Agent June Stahl of the ATF and Hale. Stahl asks who the owner of the garage is and Clay admits it is him, he is immediately arrested. Clay asks what the charge is and Stahl says he isn't being charged yet, she is just looking for some information about Nate Meineke. Clay states he doesn't know who that is and Stahl informs him that he is responsible for holding up a prison transport and killing three people. The last call on his phone is from TM.

With Clay out of the picture for the time being, Jax takes charge of the club. He orders Opie to take Piney up to the cabin to protect him from the feds in case they come looking for him in connection with the gun sales.

The club scramble to keep things in check. Piney tells them that Nate has reached out and told Piney his location. Jax tells Piney that he has to setup a meet so that they can take care of the militants, they lead the feds right to the Son's front door. Bobby also announces that the feds have a warrant to search the clubhouse. Piney is sent back to the cabin with Opie whilst Jax attempts to handle the situation.

At the cabin, the feds have come and gone without finding anything as the club were able to get the Niners guns off the property. Piney tells Jax that Nate has agreed to buy the rest of the AK's. Jax knows this is their chance to wipe out the militia for good and stop any heat coming back on the club.

Clay heads up to the cabin with the rest of the club, he is happy to hear that Jax managed to get the guns out of the warehouse and the ATF have uncovered nothing in their search except for the Irish oil barrels which the club receive their guns in, which the club believe could pose a threat if the ATF investigate hard enough. Clay says it won't be a problem once the gun warehouse is rebuilt and they don't need to store anything in the clubhouse anymore. Jax attempts to tell Clay that they are handling the militia but Clay insists Jax will handle it find and heads to bed.

The following day, Piney, Opie and Jax meet with the militia again. The deal goes down and Nate and his crew take the guns and drive off. Opie and Jax watch on as Piney embraces Nate for a final time, telling him to take care of himself. As they watch the militia disappear in to the forest, Opie detonates the explosives hidden inside the gun bags, killing all of them.

"The Pull"[]

As Jax and Opie enter the hospital, they see two Nords leaving, they head to the driver's room and find him badly beaten. Andy Kreidman confesses that he owes the Nords a lot of money. Andy also tells them that he doesn't but the crank in Charming and he is going to lose his job as the Nords stole the keys to his truck which was carrying a diesel tanker. He gives them a location.

Jax and Opie race to the impound lot and arrive just as the Nords are leaving in the stolen truck, they chase the truck and are eventually able to get it to stop and restrain the Nords. Jax later sells the stolen diesel to Unser, meaning the club now have enough to complete the IRA deal.

Chibs, Juice, Jax, Opie and Half-Sack soon arrive at the bar where Clay and Tig were meeting the IRA. They learn that a shooting went down and Cameron Hayes, the Sons' new contact after McKeavey was killed by port commissioner Brenan Hefner for not wanting to pay more tax has also just been shot by Mayans who attacked the bar. The barman says he will take care of the Mayan body whilst the rest of the club get Cameron back to the clubhouse, in Half-Sack's very convenient ambulance.

Outside the bar, Clay, Jax, Tig and Opie talk. Tig says that Alvarez has to have learned about the IRA from Darby, the Mayans and the Nords have teamed up like he predicted weeks ago after the Sons blew up the Mayan warehouse. Tig says they need to get more charters involved and wipe out the Nords and the Mayans for good. Opie and Tig are in agreement. Jax isn't sure, saying SAMCRO aren't ready for a war, they have no cash and no gun surplus, and the ATF is still on their tail. Jax asks Tig and Opie to step away whilst he talks to Clay. Jax tells Clay that he knows he thinks he is distracted and not committed but he isn't he risked his life earlier to get $15k for the club. Jax assures Clay that he is now seeing a bigger picture but his commitment hasn't changed and he is never afraid to get bloody. Clay walks back over to Tig and Opie, saying that dealing with Alvarez it is going to cause an all out war. Opie and Juice need to get in contact with other charters and get their President and Vice President in Charming tomorrow.

Back at the clubhouse, Chibs says that they need real medical tools or Cameron will die, the bullet hit an artery and it being lodged inside of him is the only thing stopping him from bleeding out. Gemma soon arrives and is relieved to see everyone in one piece; Clay informs her that other charters are coming down and the clubhouse needs to be stocked. Jax says that he will speak to Tara and see what medical equipment she can assist them in getting.

That night at the clubhouse, Gemma and Clay watch on as Tig and Opie prepare weapons for the inevitable war.

"Hell Followed"[]

At the clubhouse, Gemma is concerned as they haven't been able to locate Jax last night and today, Gemma wants to try and find him but Clay tells her to stay put. Piney and Opie agree to ride to St. Thomas to see if he may be there. Chibs then enters to inform Clay that he and Juice are still patching up Cameron, but Chibs is concerned he may have sepsis.

Donna arrives at the clubhouse furious with Opie. His boss from the lumber mill called and he will be fired unless he shows up to his next shift. Donna says Opie she will not put up with his devotion to the club anymore. As soon as Donna leaves Opie tells Jax he can't survive without the club and needs to earn as much as he can, he's all in, regardless of what Donna wants.

At the table, Clay addresses SAMCRO and the other charters who have come down. He states that what happened the previous night can never happen again, no more bodies can drop in Charming. Tig speaks up and says that SAMCRO did not attempt to kill the Nords, it was Alvarez who tried to kill Clay and Darby. However, if they retaliate, war is certain. Clay admits that he sat down with Alvarez, causing shock to ripple across the table. Clay says that he made a deal with Alvarez, the Sons will sell guns to the Mayans and all beefs will be ended, in Charming and out of state, no Sons will have issues with Mayans anymore. Juice enquires about the Sons deal with the Niners and selling guns to them, but Jax insists they have no real loyalty to the Niners and they also buy guns from other sources. Bobby admits he has concern that a deal with the Mayans could trigger something else with the Niners. Tig says that the Mayans still tried to kill him but Clay says that debt will be settled too, by another charter, he asks if Happy will do the deed and he of course agrees. The club vote on the deal and the majority are on board.

As the peace celebration rages on, another matter is bought to the rest of the club by Juice and Chibs. Cameron has stated that Hefner needs to die before Monday, or the most recent gun shipment will be taken. Cameron has offered the inital payment back and a free month of guns if SAMCRO handle it. The club briefly debate it but realise the pros outweigh the cons and the hit must be done. Opie is quick to step up, insisting that he can get it done. Clay agrees, Jax, Opie and Bobby are to carry out the hit.

The following morning Jax and Opie are waiting in the garage for Bobby to arrive. Opie says that Donna took the kids to her mother's. Opie tells Jax that he isn't doing the hit for the money, he is doing it to prove he is back in with SAMCRO. Opie also tells Jax that maybe he has something to prove too, according to what he has heard.

The hit trio head out to where Hefner will be and make a plan. Opie will kill Hefner, Bobby will be just behind him and Jax will act as the getaway driver. Hefner soon exits the apartment and locks eyes with Opie, who is unable to do the deed, Bobby is waiting close by and shoots Hefner numerous times in the chest, the trio then flee the scene.

"Better Half"[]

Opie approaches Clay and Bobby, he asks if he can get his money for the Hefner job, as he is 2 mortgage payments behind. Clay and Bobby agree but Clay presses Opie and asks if he is doing okay, he insists he is, just some family issues.

Opie returns home to deliver the cash to Donna, he sees she is packing and becomes enraged when she says she is going to find a place to live near her mother's. Opie yells at Donna, demanding to know why she didn't leave in the 5 years he imprisoned; he continues, saying that Donna knows the club is the only life Opie knows and that is how he earns, he is doing it for his family. If Donna can't accept that, she should go.

At the table, the club, joined by Unser who has been kicked out of his office to make way for the ATF discuss the recent return of Stahl. So far she has had Luann arrested on drug charges and Cherry on theft and arson. Unser says that Stahl is trying to use the RICO act to bring down the club, which will affect all of them, hence why he is sitting at the table. Jax says that Tara will never turn on the club and they have nothing to worry about regarding her. Bobby says that they can't get through to Otto, they have him on federal watch and he isn't allowed any phone calls. Jax theorises that Stahl is pressing Otto for history and using Luann as leverage. The club begin to grow concerned, knowing that Otto would do anything for Luann and Cherry also knows a lot of information about Indian Hills. The club devise a plan to use Unser and get Jax and Opie in to the police station to pass a message to Luann to warn Otto about Stahl using the RICO act, as the pair will most likely be allowed to see each other as some sort of leverage deal. They will also work on finding out where Cherry is. Clay, running out of ideas quickly agrees to Jax's plan, as does everyone else.

Jax, Opie and Unser then link up outside the police station, waiting for the distraction that Bobby, Piney and Tig are setting to begin, causing the cops to leave. Sensing that Opie is distant, Jax orders him to stay in the car and keep watch. Unser and Jax head inside.

"Capybara"[]

Late at night, Stahl returns to the Winston's residence, she takes Opie and the family in to federal custody and doesn't say much.

Stahl is questioning a confused Opie at the DoJ facility. She reveals she knows about the hit on Hefner which Opie denies, he says he wants his lawyer. Stahl continues to taunt Opie; asking him what the club will think when they hear that he willingly left with his family and find out that his bills have been paid. Opie realises he is being set up as the informant. Stahl says she can only hold him and his family for 48 hours and the real identity of the witness will not be revealed until the pre-trial at Bobby's hearing which could take a while. Opie tells Stahl he will tell the club the truth, she says that Clay won't believe him.

Donna is allowed to see Opie who tells Donna that Stahl has framed him and makes it look like he has turned on the club already. Donna attempts to convince him to work with Stahl, believing it is their only hope. Opie refuses, saying that living life in witness protection is barely a life.

Opie and Donna agree to leave the facility, Stahl tries to reason with them one final time but they are uninterested.

Jax meets up with Opie as the pair are going to travel to the clubhouse to clear Opie's name. They arrive at the clubhouse and everyone is happy to see Opie, they head in to Church. Opie speaks, telling the table that Stahl tried to set him up as a rat, he doesn't know who the witness is but it isn't him. Donna was also targeted but she turned down Stahl's deal, wanting to stay loyal to Opie. Tig then enters as Opie finishes his piece, he asks if he is good with the club and Clay confirms he is, banging the gavel as everyone stands to leave except for Tig and Clay.

"The Sleep of Babies"[]

At the table, Clay expresses concern about the club's current lack of cash. If they need to fund Bobby's legal defense, they are in trouble. He suggests selling the club's personal gun surplus to the Mayans and there is a level of disagreement. Clay says that if they sell the Mayans the guns, it will appear as a goodwill gesture and they will get a good payout. Jax protests but Clay admtis he is out of ideas. They formulate a plan and will do the deal in two separate locations, Tig and Opie drop off the guns in one location and Jax and Clay pick up the cash in another. Piney wants in also but Clay refuses, causing Piney to angrily storm out of Church.

Jax and Opie pack weapons for the Mayan deal and Jax admits to Opie that he isn't sure how much time the club have left with the recent heat on them if they continue with what they're doing. Jax references his father, telling Opie that he was smart and had ideas of legitimate ways that the club could earn money. Opie says that Clay will never get them out of guns and other members of the club might not be too keen. Opie steps out of the room as Donna has arrived. Donna says that Mary wants to take the kids to Fun Town but she wanted to check with him first, Opie agrees and Donna tells Opie he should talk to his mother again. Opie and Donna also agree to go to Jax's coming home party for Abel later.

Tig and Opie drive to the gun drop off, they discuss their families and Tig tells Opie that he only sees his daughters twice a year, it used to be hard for him but not so much nowadays.

Tig and Opie drive to the gun drop off, they discuss their families and Tig tells Opie that he only sees his daughters twice a year, it used to be hard for him but not so much nowadays. They enter the warehouse and meet with Mayans to collect the money when Niners burst in and start shooting, Tig is caught in a dead end and is almost shot when Opie appears and saves Tig's life, killing his attacker, he and Opie bail from the warehouse.

Everyone regroups at the clubhouse as Tig, Clay, Jax and Opie discuss that both parties were jumped by Niners at their collection points. The club are in a real rough spot with no money and no guns. Jax and Opie head out as Jax needs to pick Abel up from the hospital.

At Abel's coming home party, Opie and his family prepare to leave, Donna tells Opie that she wants to stay behind to help Gemma clear up, the pair switch cars as Opie gets in her car to drive the kids home and Donna gets in the truck to head in to town to get some cleaning supplies for Gemma.

With news of a shooting, SAMCRO race downtown, they find Donna dead. Opie arrives at the traffic lights where he sees the bloodied corpse of Donna, he drops to his knees and sobs as he holds her. Chibs and Jax drag him away.

Opie is at home sobbing while his kids sleep, unaware of what happened to their mother.

"The Revelator"[]

Jax goes to visit Opie. Opie confesses he blames himself for what happened as it's related to the club, Jax tries to comfort him but his words fall on deaf ears; Opie knows it is his fault Donna is dead.

Later the club learn from the SAMCRO lawyer that Opie is finally going to be pulled in for his part in the murder of Hefner, the same day as Donna's funeral. The only hope the club have of keeping Opie out of jail is by finding the witness and dealing with them.

Jax visits the station and Hale tells him exactly what he told Unser, Jax knows that it was down to Clay to have Opie killed.

The club makes plans to assault the safehouse and deal with the witness. Stahl visits Bobby in jail and tells him what has happened as he is unaware. He learns that Donna is dead and it was the club who killed her thinking he was Opie, she then tells him that Opie will be arrested the following day after Donna's funeral and the prosecutor will seek the death penalty for both of them.

Jax confronts Clay about the truth about Opie but Clay lies and tells him that he would never try to hurt Opie or Donna. SAMCRO deal with the witness.

The following day, Opie attends Donna's funeral with his family.

"The Revelator"[]

Jax visits Opie, he assures Opie he can do whatever he needs for him. Opie blames himself, telling Jax that Donna always knew the club would bring trouble like this.

The following day, the club ride with Donna's funeral procession to the graveyard. Many associates, friends and family are also present. Jax arrives late, looking worse for wear, Tara stands and places his kutte on him, before kissing him passionately. Jax briefly pays his respects to Donna before taking off.

Season 2[]

"Albification"[]

Jax visits Opie to check up on him, he has understandably been quite distant from the club recently, which everyone is being respectful of. Jax updates him on club business, SAMCRO is now selling to the Irish until A.T.F heat dies down, they will continue to sell to the Niners for the time being but are looking for other opportunities. Opie still believes that they killed Donna. Opie leaves to go to the clubhouse.

At the table, Clay announces that they believe Mayans are responsible for the slaying of Donna. He brings up some fake proof and Opie is seemingly convinced, he says he wants to kill the Mayan responsible. Tig, Filip "Chibs" Telford and Jax will go with him.

They scout Mayan territory and locate the man they believe to be responsible, Elian Perez. They give chase and are able to capture him and bring him to an industrial location. Opie interrogates the man but he proclaims his innocence, Opie wants to be certain that this is the man responsible; despite Jax trying to get him to do the job quickly. In the meantime, Tig shoots Elian through the cheek, claiming he tried to reach for his gun. Jax doubles down that the man is responsible and Opie finishes him off. He then carves the anarchy symbol in his chest stating he wants Alvarez to know. After the rest leave, Jax makes the kill look like it was done by the Niners, not wanting blowback for the club.

Later, at Bobby's welcome home party; Piney tells Opie he needs to be a better father as he has been dodging his kids since the incident. Opie is also present when the League of American Nationalists (L.O.A.N) led by Ethan Zobelle and some associates pay a visit to SAMCRO and warn them to stop selling guns to the Niners. Clay laughs off the threat and threatens Zobelle in return.

Opie later leaves the party and returns home to see his kids are sleeping.

"Small Tears"[]

Opie and Tig put guns together for the Niners who are looking to buy, expecting the Mayans to come for them after the death of Elian Perez. Tig tells Opie he's not alone.

Opie later takes part in the raid of Georgie Caruso's porn studio along with Jax, Bobby, Juice and Kip "Half-Sack" Epps, he beats up Georgie's men with a baseball bat.

Opie is later present at the table, Jax poses the idea of working with Luann Delaney's porn studio, offering her protection among other services for half the profits. Clay is doubtful but eventually comes around when Jax poses the idea that a legitimate business will keep the law off their backs. Opie and the rest of the club all agree and the vote passes.

Later that night, Opie attends the gun deal with the Niners, they are ambushed by the Mayans and the guns are taken. Recklessly, Opie stands while bullets rain around him as he brazenly walks up to the Mayans truck, shooting and killing one of them as they escape. Clay looks concerned as Opie rides away.

"Fix"[]

Opie and Half-Sack are out repossessing cars when they see a man selling drugs, they approach him and Opie warns him not to deal in Charming, the man retorts that he isn't anyone and some muscle appear, they are the Aryan Brotherhood. Opie begins to walk towards the three armed men but Half-Sack is able to convince him to back down.

Opie and others later return and threaten the dealer, demanding to know where Ernest Darby's drug labs are, the dealer eventually cracks and gives up the location.

Opie is present at the table when the club take a vote on how to deal with the drug house. Opie and the club eventually vote in favour to let Hale and the police deal with it, as a way to test if Hale is working with L.O.A.N as his brother, Jacob Hale Jr, local businessman is already working with them.

Later that night, Opie and the rest of the club go to the drug lab to destroy it; Hale, although not working for Zobelle was convinced by him to turn a blind eye. Opie plants explosives under the house and detonates them from the inside, once again, putting himself in a very dangerous situation for seemingly no reason.

At Luann's studio later that night. Jax confronts Opie about his recent recklessness but Opie replies saying he isn't trying to get himself killed and he is just doing it for the club. Jax reminds him he is a father and his kids should be his top priority.

"Eureka"[]

Opie and the rest of SAMCRO head out on a charity run for a children's hospital. The run is also disguised as a way for the club to move guns. They pay a visit to the Irish on their way up the country.

Tig is injured on the ride up and is taken to a hospital, while he is there they become suspicious and discover he has a warrant. As he is leaving the hospital bounty hunters arrive and arrest him. Clay says the delivery will still take place but is unable to ride away as his arthritis in his hands is getting worse. Opie sits with him and offers him some comfort and convinces Clay that the club should rescue Tig first.

Piney arrives with the trailer to assist in moving the motorbikes. Opie watches as Jax and Clay nearly get in to a fight over what to do about Tig. Piney makes the decision for the club and enlists the help of Jax, Chibs, Half-Sack and Happy to help save Tig.

Upon their return Jax and Opie argue, Jax believes that Opie is taking Clay's side too often as he and Clay are constantly at odds over club activities recently.

Opie and the others are eventually successful in delivering the gun shipment to the Chino Valley charter. At the party later that night, Opie, Bobby and Chibs discuss the beef between Clay and Jax. Chibs seems to think that Jax is trying to push Clay out of power but Opie affirms that "Clay's not goin' anywhere"

Opie is still very depressed over the death of Donna. He becomes distant from his children, starts crashing at the Club house and begins to take more risks for the club. He is eventually asked by Jax if he has some sort of death wish.

"Smite"[]

Opie meets Lyla Dvorak, a porn star who works for Luann who has come to the garage for car repairs. Opie gets another mechanic to give Lyla a lift to her son's school.

Opie later is present when Clay finally pays a visit to Zobelle to threaten and try to extort him. Hale gets some footage from Zobelle of Opie blowing up the drug lab. The club wants to vote on retaliation after Otto was attacked in prison. Opie is doubtful they will have enough votes and wants to try and convince some other club members who are usually on the fence to vote for retaliation.

A brawl erupts in the street between SAMCRO and L.O.A.N after the club find out L.O.A.N are trying to buy and develop land in Charming. Opie and the club are arrested but are later freed by Hale after Unser exposes Zobelle for who he and L.O.A.N really are. He gives SAMCRO some intel and the evidence he has on Opie destroying the drug lab.

Opie later sits at the table with the rest of the club to vote on retaliation for Otto. The vote ties 4-4, no retaliation.

Lyla returns to collect her car and gives Opie her number. Opie and the club are horrified when a car bomb goes off in the garage and Chibs is badly wounded.

"Faix Cerebri"[]

Mary arrives to speak to Jax, she is growing increasingly concerned about Opie. He doesn't come home anymore and won't speak to his kids.

At the table, Clay demands retaliation after Zobelle tried to have 2 SAMCRO members killed in 24 hours. Nobody objects this time. Jax speaks to Opie about what Mary said but Opie only replies aggressively and informs Jax that it's Clay's club and he needs to back down.

Jax says he is going to see Chibs in hospital but is really looking to team up with Hale to take down Zobelle. Opie informs Clay that Jax is up to something and is tasked with following him. Jax is able to lose Opie as he tails him. The club eventually finds their way to AJ Weston's house, member of the Aryan Brotherhood and associate of L.O.A.N. Jax and Hale have beaten them to it. Gunshots ring out from the house and the club rush to it. Inside, Jax has realised it is Weston's kids defending their home, Jax tries to reason with the boy but outside the club start laying down fire. Jax is able to save the boy and stop the shooting.

Opie follows Jax outside but Jax insists they both want the same thing, he is just taking charge.

Opie and the club later go to a meeting they believe Zobelle to be at. Jax already knows this from Hale and has agreed to let Hale handle the arrest of Zobelle. Jax has to tell the truth that the rally will be packed with Aryan Brotherhood members and walking in there and taking Zobelle is suicide and they should wait for the police. Clay doesn't care and tells the club to arm up. They breach the building only to discover it is a church meeting led by Zobelle; Weston fires some shots to cause chaos and Zobelle flees. Opie gives chase. The rest of the club try to escape but do so just as the police arrive. Opie chases Zobelle through the streets but ends up crashing his bike, he returns to the meeting just in time to see the rest of the club being arrested.

"Gilead"[]

Mary arrives at the garage with Opie's kids meaning he will have to look after them today. Clay manages to negotiate some protection with the club are in jail but he needs Opie to assist with taking care of a snitch on the outside.

Opie meets with Vic Trammel, another cop on the SAMCRO payroll to get him to frame Venus Bell, the dealer on the outside by planting drugs in their car. He enlists the help of Lyla and asks if she can get her dealer to get him some drugs to use to frame Venus. Lyla is sceptical but Opie promises that nothing will come back to her if there is a problem.

Lyla's dealer, Angus, arrives and Opie beats him and takes the drugs, threatening him to not come back. Opie then breaks in to Venus' car and plants the drugs, Trammel watches and then moves in for the arrest but he is shot by Venus when he approaches the car. Opie drives to Trammel and calls for backup.

Opie returns to Luann's studio to thank Lyla for her assistance, Lyla offers to look after Opie's kid, he is hesitant but accepts. He makes it clear to Lyla that he doesn't want his kids to be around him anymore because of who he is and what he does.

Opie later goes to collect his kid's from Jax's house. Gemma and Tara Knowles had refused to let Lyla take Opie's kids. He apologises for the Lyla issue and says he trusts her but Tara isn't sure. He explains that Mary has left town and he is on his own with the kids again, Tara tries to convince Opie he isn't alone but he thinks he is.

The rest of the club is bailed from jail after some hard work from Gemma and Opie.

"Potlatch"[]

Bobby calls an unofficial meeting. He says the rift between Jax and Clay is getting worse and is going to hurt the club. They got in to a violent brawl while in jail. Opie says he will speak to Jax and try to get some information out of him.

Bobby attends a club meeting with the Chinese. They want to buy guns from SAMCRO, Clay is interested but uncertain. Henry Lin, offers SAMCRO Chuck Marstein back, a man who Otto protected on the inside but eventually lied about being able to set up business between the Chinese and SAMCRO. Clay is uninterested after Chuckie screwed SAMCRO in the past. Knowing the Chinese will kill him, Tig, taking pity on Chuckie says SAMCRO will take him and he can take over the books at the Cara Cara which will give Bobby more club time.

Opie receives a call from Jax telling him to get down to the Cara Cara, he takes Chuckie with him. Opie comforts Lyla who is distressed after Georgie has once again attacked Luann's business. Opie admits to the club that he is casually seeing Lyla and Jax invites him to bring Lyla over to a club dinner that Gemma is doing that night.

Outside Jax is surprised to see Chuckie. Opie, Bobby and Jax listen intently while he spills some inside information about the Lin Triad and their ongoing war with the Mayans. This is why he wants guns and is pushing Niners turf, they decide to check in with Laroy on their way to Georgie's studio.

With the help of Chuckie, Opie, Jax and Bobby are able to attack Georgie and steal back Luann's equipment and tapes. Opie also personally threatens Georgie about Lyla. They then make their way to a Niner bar only to discover it has been taken over by the Mayans, they surround and capture the trio. Jax voices his concern for Opie once again before Alvarez arrives, telling Jax to bring the message back to Clay that he will spare them today but the truce between the Mayans and SAMCRO is over.

They return to Jax's house for dinner in time to see Lyla storming out. She is furious over the disrespect she receives from the other women of SAMCRO. Back inside another brawl nearly erupts when half the club lost their gun shipment as Bobby, Opie and Jax were not around to help. Hale arrives to deliver the harrowing news that Luann has been found dead. Clay immediately knows Jax is behind the payback for what happened and the night ends in disaster as the club is in disarray.

"Fa Guan"[]

Opie attends a meeting with the Chinese, he learns that the CCTV footage from the Christian centre is poor quality and a lot of the victims don't want to get involved. Lin wants the club to deal with a upcoming court case and make sure the judge is dealt with. Clay assigns Opie along with Happy and Bobby for this.

Opie, Bobby and Jax set out to go to the judges house. Jax has taken Happy's place unbeknownst to Clay. They capture the judge and bring him inside his house. The judge's son, Alex Franklin arrives unannounced and immediately begins arguing with his father. The club are worried as they were going to use the son as leverage but with the father and son clearly not getting along, they have nothing to use against the judge. Opie threatens Alex and even shoots him in the foot but the judge will not back down. Opie loses his cool and heads outside. They are eventually able to persuade the judge after threatening to destroy his dead wife's belongings.

"Balm"[]

Opie attempts to stop Jax from going Nomad after the Cara Cara is burned down. Jax blames Clay and decides he has had enough of SAMCRO under his leadership.

Opie and Half-Sack head out on a repossessing run. They repo a woman's van only to discover it is full of homemade bullets. The club return to the Wahewa area to investigate. They speak to the Chief of the tribe and he agrees to sell the club ammo and also offers them mushrooms to sample. Opie and Clay discuss the vote to allow Jax to transfer, Clay tries to offer some fatherly advice to Opie.

Opie later attends the church meeting and casts his vote as a "Yea" to Jax being allowed to transfer. The vote passes unanimously.

"Service"[]

Opie attends church with the rest of the club. In order to unite Jax and Clay and stop Jax from leaving, Gemma told the truth about being raped by L.O.A.N members on the night of Bobby's coming home party.

An intoxicated and overcome with guilt Tig arrives at the clubhouse and sees Opie working on a bike he has been restoring. He asks Opie why Donna was driving the truck the night she died before proclaiming that she wasn't supposed to be in the truck. A startled Opie finally realises what Tig is trying to say and launches a brutal assault on him. A bloodied Tig explains everything; how Stahl set Opie up with wiretaps and made him look like a rat and how it was supposed to be Opie in the truck on that fateful night. Tig sobs his apologies as Jax and Clay arrive to stop the beating. Opie makes a swift exit and the club realise he is going to go after Stahl; who is back in Charming for the I.R.A and the Sons.

Opie tracks Stahl to the police station and begins to tail her and the other agents as she leaves. Jax heads inside to speak to Hale to try and get word to Stahl. Opie is successful in finding Stahl and holds her at gunpoint, threatening her but ultimately showing mercy.

Back at the clubhouse, Opie talks to Jax and asks what he should do, how can he call the men who killed his wife his brothers. Jax wants Opie to read John Teller's manuscript. Opie's loyalty to Clay ends here.

Opie later faces the club at the table and tells Clay that he will not be leaving and "the secret dies here". He also confesses that when he went after Stahl, he saw Chibs leaving her office. He asks the club not to jump to conclusions but hear Chibs out. Chibs later arrives and the club listens while he explains that he was trying to protect his wife, Fiona Larkin and daughter from Jimmy O'Phelan, his estranged wife's partner and high ranking member of the IRA. Stahl would give SAMCRO and his wife immunity if she got the IRA. Stahl went back on her agreement and is going to tell Jimmy Chibs' plan which would lead to his family being killed. Chibs has done no wrong as far as the club is concerned as no deal was made. Suddenly, Piney bursts through the doors and shoots 2 rounds at Clay before being disarmed.

Opie asks to speak to his father and later explains what happened to Clay. Piney thought that Opie would kill Clay once he found out the truth about Donna so he would just do it himself to stop the club turning on his son. Opie hopes Clay can look the other way given the circumstances and that Piney has nothing else to live for without the club. Opie is grateful when Clay gives Piney a pass.

"The Culling"[]

Opie sends his family to the clubhouse while SAMCRO prepare for war with L.O.A.N. All SAMCRO family members and associates are to be kept safe until the business with Zobelle is finally finished. There are also some Nomad members and other charters assisting during this time, namely Happy and SAMTAC Herman Kozik.

Opie, Jax and Juice head in to town to give some hard truth to Weston. Zobelle is dealing heroin with the Mayans and guns with the Niners. They taunt Weston saying that Zobelle clearly isn't a true believer in their racist cause. They further provoke Weston when they get his sons taken away by protective services. Weston and Jax agree to a night time brawl, 10 Aryans versus 10 sons. No weapons and no witnesses.

The club then meet with Laroy and Lin. SAMCRO want to unite the trio against L.O.A.N and the Mayans.

The club complete their gun deal with the IRA despite the betrayal of Edmond Hayes who has been threatened in to working with the A.T.F.

The club head out to meet the Aryan's for their fight. Upon arrival they learn the Aryans have come with more men and they are all armed. Weston is shocked when the Chinese and the Niners arrive with weapons of their own. They decide maybe fists are best after all and a brawl ensues with SAMCRO winning out. Hale, Unser and more cops soon arrive. Weston is arrested for burning down the Cara Cara.

With the help of Unser the club bust in to Impeccable Smokes and Opie holds Zobelle while Clay threatens to execute him. Hale arrives realising what Unser's plan is and Zobelle is able to save himself from SAMCRO by getting himself arrested for drug possession.

"Na Trioblóidí"[]

Opie and the rest of the club anxiously wait outside the police station for news on Weston and Zobelle. Unser eventually emerges and announces that Weston will go free as Chuckie's testimony is unreliable and Zobelle has been an Federal Burea of Investigation (F.B.I.) informant all along, using his smarts to make money off L.O.A.N while giving the F.B.I what they need. Zobelle is escorted out by a Mayan entourage.

A stalemate is happening on main street in Charming. The Mayans are posted up outside Impeccable Smokes with Zobelle inside and SAMCRO are on the other side. Chibs, Jax and Opie head out to deal with the now free Weston. They make plans to deal with Weston when he has been separated from his kid. Weston is in a tattoo parlour but fortunately, the owner, Irish Freddy is a friend of the club and Opie gives him a call and asks him to assist in dealing with Weston. Freddy jabs Weston causing him to have to go to the bathroom where the trio are waiting. Weston is then executed by Jax.

Juice calls the club seeing that Zobelle is finally preparing to leave. SAMCRO arm up as they begin to follow the Mayan convoy. Happy and Piney are able to kill some Mayans with a surprise attack from the back of a truck. Clay spares Alvarez and Zobelle takes off in the car himself. The club follow him to a rest stop but need to wait for it to clear out before taking care of Zobelle. Jax receives a panicked call from Tara and Opie, Chibs and Jax leave the rest of the club to deal with Zobelle while they race back to Charming.

They arrive at Jax's house to find that Half-Sack has been stabbed to death and Jax's son, Abel Teller has been taken by Cameron Hayes, believing that Gemma is responsible for killing Edmond. A cleverly orchestrated plan by Stahl after accidentally killing Edmond and Gemma being in the wrong place at the wrong time.

The club race to the docks to stop Cameron but they are too late, he has escaped with Abel.

Season 3[]

"SO"[]

Opie and the rest of the club visit Jax; he is in quite a state since Abel's kidnapping. The club has some new information on his kidnapping. Opie carries a very drunk Jax to the bathroom to shower, probably for the first time in a while.

Down at the docks, the club are searching for Cameron's whereabouts after meeting with a forger who made some documents for Cameron. While there the club spot 2 suspicious men carrying fuel who quickly run when the club spot them. Opie and the club give chase but end up being held at gunpoint by the rest of the crew, Jax is able to calm the situation and the gangsters are able to give some more information; they bought some AKs from Cameron and the boat.

Opie and the rest of the club later attend Half-Sack's wake. As they gather outside a van pulls up and begins shooting in to the crowd. Opie dives to the floor and in the aftermath the shooter had fallen out of the side of the truck and Jax had jumped on him and was pounding his head in to the floor, Opie quickly reacts and restrains Jax from killing the man.

"Oiled"[]

Eager to gain some information about the drive by. The club visit St. Thomas where the shooter is being held and with assistance from Chuckie gain access to his room and rough him up a little but are unable to get any information out of him. Partly, because Jax broke his jaw. Jax and Opie are able to deduce however that he is a member of the Calaveras Motorcycle Club. A puppet club for the Mayans.

The club enlists the help of a bounty hunter to try and track down Cameron. Fortunately, Bobby's ex-wife's husband, Sergio Coletti is a bounty hunter. He agrees to help the club if they assist him in catching a target. Jax, Juice and Opie head to a sex shop where the target is. Opie is guarding the door but is distracted by some pornographic DVD's starring Lyla. Meanwhile, in the back of the store Juice and Jax are able to apprehend the target but his crew are able to run to the back and draw guns on the pair due to Opie being distracted. Regardless, he is able to get to the back and beat down the 2 men allowing the capture of the target.

Opie and the club later arrive at the home of Hector Salazar, the Calaveras President. Opie lures him in to opening the door before the club rush inside and restrain him, they later interrogate him by having Opie and Jax driving inches from his head while he is buried in the ground. They get the information they need but decide to let Salazar go free, to avoid further conflict with the Mayans.

"Caregiver"[]

The club want to fund an ally club, Grim Bastards Motorcycle Club. They are based in Lodi and so can assist in stopping the Mayans expanding on their turf. They want guns from SAMCRO and they pay a visit to Lin. Lin says they can have the guns if he can have 5 Cara Cara girls for his new clients to have sex and shoot pornography with, apparently white girls are popular in Asia. Jax asks Opie if he can speak to Lyla to see if she can get some of the girls willing to help. Opie is clearly starting to worry about Lyla being in the porn business.

The club later learn from Serg that Cameron has made his way to Canada. The club are also surprised that they are going to have to go back to jail until their trial for the earlier gun charges when they attacked the Christian centre. Jax doesn't want the club to skip trial and risk them all getting longer sentences. Clay sarcastically calls a vote and asks "Who's up for a Canadian adventure?". Unsurprisingly, the vote is unanimous.

Opie later asks Lyla about the porn gig for the Chinese and she is happy to ask some of the girl's; even volunteering herself to do it for free to help the club which Opie is obviously very unhappy with but Lyla talks him in to it.

At Lin's restaurant, his clientele are having a great time with the Cara Cara girls, Opie loses his cool when he sees Lyla with one of them and attacks the man leading to an all out brawl between the club and Lin's clients.

Back at the clubhouse Opie apologises for messing up the deal with Lin. Jax offers him some womanly advice before he leaves to take Lyla home. The rest of the club learn that the SAMBEL President has been in contact with SAMCRO. Cameron is in Ireland, he is also dead.

"Home"[]

The club is still struggling to figure out exactly where Abel is. Jimmy O is insisting that Cameron never had Abel with him when he was captured and executed. Opie fronts Jax $10k so that he can pay Serg's tracker friend to assist in Vancouver. He admitted he sold the vintage bike he had been working on for the cash.

Gemma, who has been on the run since Stahl framed her for the murder of Edmond has taken her chance to head back to Charming to see Abel, she still doesn't know he has been kidnapped. The club race after her to stop her finding out the truth but it is too late. Maureen Ashby, wife of the SAMBEL President has called her and informed her that her grandson is in Ireland. This is part of Kellan Ashby's plan to bring SAMCRO to Ireland to deal with the threat of Jimmy O.

Season 3[]

When Lyla and her porn star friends are entertaining businessmen for a deal between SAMCRO and the Lin Triad, Opie starts a fight that loses the club a good cash payment and guns. He went to Belfast, Northern Ireland to back up Jax's search for his son Abel. He also kills Agent June Stahl in the same fashion that Tig killed Donna.

Season 4[]

LylaOpieWedding

Opie and Lyla at their wedding.

Lyla and Opie were married in the Season Premiere, their wedding was also used as a cover to retaliate against the Russians for going after Jax in prison. When the new wife asked his involvement he kept club secrets and told her they had nothing to do with murdering the Russians. Opie wants Lyla to get out of the porn business, but she continues to work doing girl on girl. He even tries to impregnate her to get her out.

Lyla telling Opie that she did not want to have kids.

When visiting her at work he finds her stash of birth control confirming that she does not want to stop working in the industry cause it is "all she knows". This really hurts Opie, inciting a one night stand with her porn star co-worker Ima (who also slept with Jax in season 3) at the club house. Lyla confesses to Opie that she had an abortion before he went to Belfast, which causes their relationship to slowly fall apart, and does finally snap when V-Lin is tasked to bring her to the SOA compound for protection during the heavy battles with Lobo Sonora she gives V-Lin the slip and bails on her new family after such a short time. When Opie does finally catch up with Lyla when looking for Georgie, Opie is cold and indifferent and says he does not blame her for leaving as he did not think it would work out anyways, Lyla responds with a verbal kick in the heart saying "nothing will work out until she (Donna) is dead".

Opie shooting Clay

He finds out that Clay killed his father Piney and is enraged that Clay has taken his wife, Donna, and his father away from him. Clay has to be stopped before he can hurt any one else he loves. He then immediately shoots Clay two times. In an attempt to stop Opie's rage, Jax shoots him in the wrist, then takes him to Piney's cabin, where he tells him to stay put until everything is cleared up.

Jax-and-Opie

Jax meeting with Opie before becoming SAMCRO President

Soon Jax returns. Opie asks him if Clay was dead, to which Jax replied "No", which angered Opie. Jax told him he would take the gavel and said that he wanted Opie to be his Vice-President—but he did not tell Opie the whole truth, which Opie already knew, so he was further angered. He told Jax that omitting the full truth is the same as lying, and doesn’t show up for Jax 's investiture as President of SAMCRO.

Season 5[]

Opie was out of the club for a short while because he was unable to sit next to the man who killed his father and was not willing to go along with Jax's plan of hiding the truth from the club. He was seen placing a for sale sign on Piney's motorcycle. After Clay visits Opie and tells him he shouldn't leave just because Clay is there, Opie decides to come back. He arrives at the clubhouse as Jax, Chibs, and Tig are surrendering into custody and punches Sheriff Roosevelt to force his arrest along with the others, in order to stay close and protect his brothers.

Opie just before his death

While incarcerated, Jax is forced to accept a deal under Damon Pope's terms: Tig is to remain in the pen, to be tortured forever and Jax must choose the life of another Son to give up in exchange for the freedom of the remaining two. Jax refuses to appoint one of his brothers as sacrifice and plans to offer up himself instead. Opie won't allow Jax to follow through with his plan and assaults the commanding, 'Solitary' Sergeant, thereby forcing himself into the role of sacrificial lamb. The irate Sergeant orders Opie be taken to the box, where he's left alone with a pipe to fight Pope's agents, 4:1 as the others watch helplessly, accepting his fate, Opie reassures them, saying "I got this." Opie initially puts up a fight, managing to wound several of his attackers, but is ultimately overpowered by them, and savagely beaten. Badly wounded, and with no strength to fight back, Opie looks to a horrified Jax, before he is struck in the back of the head with the pipe killing him. Afterwards, Jax brokers a deal with Pope that has the remaining three Sons, including Tig released from so he can use Tig's gratitude to his advantage to leverage Tig into siding with him. Pope agrees, impressed with Jax's ability to see the advantage in bad circumstances.

Jax vows to avenge Opie's fate. He later finds out the sergeant's name and murders both him and his wife. Jax and the sons also track down Randall Hightower (the inmate responsible for dealing the fatal blow to the back of Opie's head and the cousin of Grim Bastards president, T.O. Cross). Despite Cross's pleas, Jax orders Chibs to kill Randall, who repeats Opie's final words ("I got this") and shoots Randall in the back of the head, finally avenging Opie for good.

OpieGrave

Opie's grave.

Season 7[]

Opie's grave is briefly seen at the cemetery when Wayne Unser visits Tara's grave to lay flowers at it. ("Black Widower")

Jax visits Opie's grave at the cemetery and places his "SO" and "NS" rings on top of the tombstone. Later, Jax echos Opie's final words ("I got this") as his final line to the SAMCRO members before riding off to his death. ("Papa's Goods")

Murders Committed[]

Motorcycle[]

Opie's bike is close to Jax's bike in many ways. It is a 2003 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide Sport with front drag fairing, taped thunderheader exhaust and a custom badlander seat. Opie has embraced the SOA logo on a pile of skulls for his paint on the fuel tank. The engine has been black powder coated. He has drag bars with high risers for handlebars instead of the T-Bars that are common among the rest of the club.

Trivia[]

  • Opie is the third main character to die in the series.
  • As seen in A Mother's Work, he was buried next to his wife Donna Winston.
  • Opie, Piney, Gemma and Unser are the only main characters to appear as a corpse after the episode in which they are killed.
  • Opie, along with Jax, are the only known "Legacies" in SAMCRO. A "legacy" is biker terminology for being the offspring of a member, with said offspring eventually becoming members themselves of the MC.
  • In the Sons of Anarchy spin off series, Mayans MC. Happy is seen to have a pet dog also named "Opie", presumably after his fallen brother.
