Biography[]
Background[]
Nate was a Reverend for Charming United Church, since the church was erected in 1961, until his retirement in 1975, after the death of his son, Nathaniel, Gemma's younger brother.,who died of the same genetic heart defect that plagues everyone in Gemma's mother's side of the family.
Season 3[]
Gemma and Tig visit Nate when they are on the run from Gemma's murder charges. He suffers from the early stages of dementia (believing his wife to still be alive) and has a Guatemalen caretaker. He shoots Tig in the shoulder with a rifle when he catches him having sex with his caretaker, believing her to be his wife Rose. He escapes from the house with the 22 cal. rifle he used and goes to a secluded lake and contemplates suicide for what he has done. After the unfortunate death of the caretaker during an escape attempt, a heartbroken Gemma now has to put Nate in a home for the elderly. Last Nate is seen, he is going into the day room and seeing the residents of the home. He knows he will end up dying there alone.
Season 7[]
"Red Rose"[]
When Gemma is attempting to help Juice get out of San Joaquin County, Gemma comes up with the excuse to leave without worrying Jax, as the entire club and its allies were under lock-down after war had begun with the Lin Triad, saying that her father had "taken a turn for the worse." This showed that Nate was still alive a few years after being placed in the nursing home.Gemma later visits him one last time in the Season 7 penultimate episode, Red Rose but his mental health deteriorated noticeable, barely being able to recognize his daughter.
