Gertie is first seen asking Gemma for her order. After Gemma gives her some attitude, she instantly apologizes and tells her that she's had a long night. After Gemma falls asleep in the restaurant, she informs Gemma that she's going on her smoke break and that she wants Gemma to join her. Out there, Gemma tells Gertie about how her son just lost his wife recently and that she and his wife were close friends. Gertie informs Gemma that she has a son named John. ("Smoke 'em if You Got 'em")
