Clarence 'Clay' Morrow was the former President of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Redwood Original charter and a major character on the FX original series' Sons of Anarchy. Played by American actor Ron Perlman, Clay makes his debut in the series' premiere episode, "Pilot", in season one. Playing a major role throughout the same and subsequent seasons. Clay meets his demise in the season six episode, "Aon Rud Persanta".

Appearance and Style[]

Clay is a grizzled and burly older man, he is 59 years of age when we first meet him. Despite being an older man Clay is in remarkably good shape, still maintaining his physique from his younger years of when he was in the US Army as a paratrooper; he demonstrates numerous times he can hold his own in a fight against a younger opponent. Clay sports a healthy head of light grey hair and a short beard to match. Clay has numerous tattoos, most notably his military tattoos of which he has a few on his left arm, a paratrooper pin reading "Death From Above", guns and flags with the words "Vietnam" and "1969-1972" around it, and a stereotypical caricature of a Vietnamese man with the words "Dead Cong" above it. Clay also sported a spiderweb on his left elbow and a Celtic cross on his neck. He also has the name "Gemma" adorned by a skull, flowers and smoke on his right forearm. Clay previously had two club affiliated tattoos, the reaper insignia on his right shoulder and another reaper with the word "Mayhem" underneath it on his back; both of these tattoos were blacked out in 2012 after Clay was excommunicated from the club.

Clay mostly falls in line with traditional biker clothing; often wearing baggy blue jeans or dark chinos and a plain polo or t-shirt. He also wears black boots. Sometimes when Clay is riding he wears a black decorative bandanna on his head and frequently wears black sunglasses. Clay also wears a few golden rings as well as a golden watch, one is a skull and the other is an eagle with the words "Born Wild" engraved below it; he also wore a wedding band. Clay also had a small black stud piercing in his left ear.

Clay's kutte also has a generous amount of customisability displayed. Above his "Redwood Original" flash, he wears two golden badges, one is the paratrooper emblem and the other is a Sons reaper brandishing a scythe, Chibs also wears this pin. Clay also wears "Unholy Ones" and "Men of Mayhem" flashes on the bottom of his kutte, likely due to him not having enough space on the top of his kutte.

Biography[]

Morrow was born on February 14, 1949 (whereabouts unknown, although as of season 4, he had been a resident of Charming, California for "31 years"), and is 59 years old in Season 1.[1] In 1968, he was one of nine members who were invited to join the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club. He was the youngest of the First 9, and one of only three who were not war veterans. He did later go on to serve in the military, however, joining the Army Airborne in 1969 and serving in Vietnam until 1972.

Clay Morrow

Clay in his early years

When he returned from Vietnam, he reconnected with the club and was patched in. He and John Teller, the club President, opened the Teller-Morrow auto shop. He went to N. Ireland, along with JT and Keith, in the mid-80's, because of IRA trouble in Keith's home town, of Shortstrand, a suburb of Belfast. He was the one who pushed for the gun running business back in the U.S., while JT was more opposed, than for it. He was responsible for a number of murders during the SAMCRO-Mayan War, that started in the early 90's. One of his victims was Lowell Harland, Sr., a mechanic at the auto shop who became an ATF informant.

Young Clay and Tig

Clay in his younger days with Tig Trager

John Teller died in 1993, and Clay succeeded him as President of the club's Mother Chapter, based in Charming, due to Piney's ailing health and inability to take over as President. He married John's widow Gemma Teller in the mid-1990's. She took his name, becoming Gemma Teller Morrow, and he adopted their son Jackson 'Jax' Teller. Jax grew up to become Clay's Vice President. Under Morrow, SAMCRO have become more of a criminal enterprise than before, to Jax's dissatisfaction.

He has formerly served an unspecified prison term. His last criminal conviction prior to the series beginning, was at least seven years. He states to Agent Stahl, that he hasn't been charged with anything gun related, or otherwise for that long. It could be assumed that his prior conviction was gun related, as other members had similar convictions around the same time. Clay had proven to be a skilled fighter, being able to take on younger opponents and even hold his own against Jax several times but lost due to his old age slowing him down.

Once a feared and dangerous man with many powerful allies at his side as he sat at the head of the Son's table; Clay's power and reach diminished continuously over his club and those around him as the series continued. Clay eventually died alone, at the hands of his own club after his years of betrayals and vicious acts finally caught up to him.

Season 1[]

"Pilot"[]

SAMCRO are heading to their warehouse which was blown up. Clay is accompanied by Vice President and his stepson, Jackson "Jax" Teller, Sgt-at-Arms, Alexander "Tig" Trager and Secretary Robert "Bobby Elvis" Munson. They drive to the site of their destroyed warehouse and after speaking to Vic Trammel, a corrupt sheriff, they learn quickly that the Mayans Motorcycle Club was responsible. Trammel explains to Clay that everyone knows about the explosion and it has drawn a lot of heat to the Sons. Jax counts out some cash and passes it to Trammel, telling him to make sure that the police report flies under the radar. SAMCRO goes to leave when Trammel shows them the bodies of two dead Mexican women, they were trapped in the explosion and killed. Trammel also brings up the partnership with the One-Niners, a street gang that the Sons are affiliated with, Jax hands Trammel some more cash and tells him to get a meet setup between the two.

Clay, accompanied by Tig and Bobby meets with Laroy Wayne, leader of the Niners. Clay explains the situation with the warehouse and although angry, Laroy agrees to give Clay a few more days to make up the lost shipment. He does threaten Clay, however.

Back at the clubhouse, Kip "Half-Sack" Epps, the club Prospect shows the club his ballbag, which contains only one ball, as the other was blown off by a landmine in Iraq. Clay tells Filip "Chibs" Telford to find Jax and inform him they are sitting at the table.

At the table, Clay lays out the situation, the club have one more day before Laroy brings his men to Charming. The Niners have a heroin shipment coming in and they need the guns for protection. Jax is adamant that a big problem is going to occur if the Mayans attempt to steal the Niners heroin with their own guns but an angry Clay shuts down the idea, saying it isn't going to happen. The club decide they are going to track down where the guns are and retrieve them, destroying the Mayans warehouse in the process. Bobby is going to be absent as he needs to go to Tahoe to deal with his ex-wives, he is the club's usual explosive expert. Clay suggests they bring in Harry "Opie" Winston, an on and off member of the club who has recently gotten out of prison after serving 9 years for. Jax insists that Opie is "leaning straight" but Clay tells him he doesn't care, Opie will have to help them.

The club exit Church and Gemma Teller-Morrow, Clay's wife and Jax's mother furiously drives in to the parking lot. She tells them that Wendy Case, Jax's pregnant ex-wife has overdosed and is in hospital. Clay, Jax, Gemma, Bobby and Chibs head to Saint Thomas Hospital. Gemma explains that the heroin Wendy OD'd on had marking on the packaging, the club realise it is the work of the Nordics, a white supremacist gang in Charming who frequently peddle drugs.

They find Wendy and they quickly realise that her baby bump has gone. Dr. Tara Knowles exits the room and speaks to them. She explains that an emergency C-section had to be performed and that the baby is 10 weeks premature. He is also very unwell due to being born with the Teller heart defect and all the drugs Wendy was shooting up. He is given a 20% survival chance.

Jax leaves the hospital as Clay orders Chibs and Bobby to stay with him.

At the table, the club go over the situation with the Nordics and their plan to retrieve their guns. They are joined at the table by Opie, and Happy Lowman, a member of the Sons of Anarchy Motorcycle Club, Tacoma charter. Piermont "Piney" Winston, Opie's father and co-founder of the club speaks up and congratulates Jax on the birth of his son, and they are all here for him if they need him.

Outside, Clay, Piney, Bobby and Jax discuss the destroyed warehouse land. Jax suggests that they sell off the land and funnel the money in to something else, a more legit business venture. Clay doesn't shut down the idea but seems very perplexed by Jax's suggestion. Later on, Jax is taken aside by Clay. Jax explains that he hasn't seen his son since they visited the hospital earlier, Clay pushes Jax to spend more time with his family but Jax takes it as Clay trying to force him out of club business. Clay insists he isn't, and that his family need him more than ever. Jax relents and goes to visit Abel, his son.

That night, Gemma tells Clay that she was cleaning up at Jax's house. The pair discuss Jax and Gemma tells Clay that Jax has found John "JT" Teller's letters, Clay mentions that Jax also wasn't keen on the idea of rebuilding the warehouse. Gemma tells Clay that he has to ensure Jax stays on the right path, follows the right father's footsteps. If he doesn't, it could ruin everything they have built.

The following day, Clay, Jax, Bobby and Tig meet with Ernest Darby, leader of the Nords. They present him with a gun as a get well soon present for Izzy, a member of his crew that Jax assaulted. A fight almost breaks out in the diner when Darby mocks Jax's sick son. Clay reminds Darby that they do not deal in Charming, Darby tries to reason saying that the Nords kept Opie safe on the inside but Clay doesn't care. They aren't in prison anymore and SAMCRO control everything. Darby says he is sure they can continue peaceful existence as SAMCRO leave.

Later that day, the club put the finishing touches to their plan to raid the Mayan warehouse and retrieve their guns. Clay is impressed with the club's work.

The club hit the Mayan warehouse and are able to locate their guns, they work on wiring the place up with explosives when Mayans arrive. They stay quiet as Jax and Clay head out to deal with the problem. They argue about what should be done as Clay insists on blowing the warehouse up but Jax isn't so sure, not wanting to start a war with the Mayans. Clay says that they would be long gone if it wasn't for the delay with the explosives which is ultimately Jax's fault, not believing his story about Opie having to take his daughter to the hospital. They are able to outmanoeuvre the Mayans which ends with Clay and Tig both killing one and Jax being left to execute the last one. Suddenly, he is shot in the back but is able to return fire and hit his attacker, the last remaining Mayan attempts to draw a knife from his belt and finish off Jax, but he is gunned down by Clay. SAMCRO check the bodies of the deceased, realising one if a Nordic, meaning the Mayans and the Nords have a new partnership. The club put the finishing touches to their explosive work and detonate the Mayans warehouse.

"Seeds"[]

Clay announces that the gun deal with the Niners has finally gone through, giving the club a decent chunk of change. Juice soon arrives and says that Deputy Chief David Hale has a warrant to search one of the Sons' warehouses where they store guns.

Clay receives a call from Chief Wayne Unser, the corrupt police chief of Charming who has had history with the Sons for many years. He has asked the Sons to do a protection run on a truck of stolen goods for him. Clay mentions it to Tig as he walks past but suspects something isn't right. Tig admits to Clay that he had been having sex with the two dead Mexicans at the warehouse, meaning his DNA is inside both of them. Clay tells him that if they get hold of the bodies and Tig's subsequent DNA, they are in a lot of trouble. Tig insists that he can get rid of the bodies but Clay reminds him that Hale isn't going to take his eyes off the warehouse.

Inside Church, the club are planning what to do after Clay and Tig admitted that Clay had been having sex with the two dead Mexicans at the warehouse. Juice and Jax theorise that Hale is going to borrow a forensic team for the Lodi PD. Otto "Big Otto" Delaney, an imprisoned member of SAMCRO's sister works for the Lodi PD and perhaps she can let SAMCRO know if a forensic team is coming their way. Clay says that he is going to speak to Unser and see if he can get Hale to back down.

Clay meets with Unser, who insists that there is little he can do to control Hale. His superiors are already trying to get him out, since he was diagnosed with cancer the previous year. He elaborates, telling Clay that they are expecting him to resign in a matter of weeks. Clay is furious with Unser's decision, but still agrees to help him with the protection run later, taking a wad of cash from Unser.

Back in Church, Juice explains that the forensic team will be in Charming tomorrow. Clay says the only way to stop them is to divert their attention with another murder. Jax is unsure, saying that Hale is already on high alert and it could bring more trouble with the Nords and the Mayans. Clay insists they need to do it to protect Tig and Jax eventually relents. Tig says they should kill some Nords and Clay agrees. Tig leaves to go and set things up but Jax stops him. He says he has a plan to fix their issue without killing anyone. He says they should call in a favour with Skeeter, an undertaker who can easily be bought out; Jax states that all they need is a body and a crime scene for a murder, of which they can fabricate. Clay agrees, telling Jax to not make him regret going with his plan.

Clay, Bobby, Opie and Tig head out on their protection run for Unser. Opie and Clay talk about their history. He has agreed to do the run for some easy cash. Clay later betrays Unser, instead selling his cargo to Jimmy Cacuzza, an Italian mobster who the Sons work closely with, to ensure he doesn't attempt to partner with anyone else. Opie also tells Clay he is back in the club.

The following day, Clay confronts Unser, he tells him if he doesn't step down for another six months, he will make sure that his trucks keep going smoothly. He also needs to keep Hale out of SAMCRO's way.

Hale arrives at the clubhouse, he talks to Jax and Clay, explaining that Unser is no longer retiring and there were two bodies at the warehouse, both are now gone. Jax and Clay are incredibly smug despite Hale's belittling. Hale finishes by telling them that SAMCRO will be history soon. Jax is told by Clay to get rid of the bodies as soon as possible.

"Fun Town"[]

The club are at a local carnival. They briefly cross paths with Elliott Oswald, a local business man with whom the club have some history with. His wife, Karen, is less than pleased to see Clay and the club, knowing they are bad news.

The club regroup that evening to meet the True IRA for a gun deal, whilst they wait, Clay asks everyone's opinion on Half-Sack's prospect period. Everyone is in agreement that Half-Sack is doing an amazing job and is an asset to the club. Clay calls him over as their shipment arrives. Disassembled guns inside of oil barrels. Michael McKeavey, the driver of the truck and IRA member is frustrated to hear that the Sons won't be placing another order with the IRA for a few months whilst they recover from the warehouse fire. McKeavey says they have no choice but to look for another buyer.

The club agree to front McKeavey his money to keep their business arrangements, Chibs is ordered by Clay to go with McKeavey whilst he makes a trip up north, Clay wants to know who he is meeting.

Elliott drives in to the lot, demanding to speak with Clay. Jax and Clay speak with Elliott and are sickened to learn that at the carnival the previous night, Tristen, his 13 year old daughter was raped and beaten. Elliott wants the club to assist him, knowing they aren't just motorcycle enthusiasts. He offers them any amount of money, but Clay insists payment isn't necessary, they want to do the right thing. The only catch is, Oswald needs to be the one to deal with the perpetrator once he is delivered.

Later in Church, the rest of the club learn about Oswald's situation. Some members of the club are unsure about assisting Oswald as he has no real affiliation to SAMCRO and it isn't their business. Clay is able to rally the troops however, and everyone is in agreement they will assist Oswald. The club believe that the Nords are a good place to start to try and find the rapist.

Hale has arrived at TM, as the Sons were at the carnival last night, he wants to take statements from all of them. Clay is frustrated as it will take a few hours, but Hale insists.

The club soon begin to grow impatient, eventually figuring out that the cops are just there to waste time whilst Hale tries to find the rapist. Jax, Tig and Clay plan to subdue the cops so they can keep hunting. Tig spikes the coffee pot and offers some more to the cops, they drink it and are soon out cold.

Unable to find Darby, the club are frustrated, Juice comes through with a lead however, a Nord who has served time for sex crimes who was at the carnival the previous night. Gemma calls, telling Clay that Darby is at St. Thomas hospital. Clay, Tig and Bobby head to St. Thomas whilst Juice is told to prepare the guns for the deal later. Tig also hands him some "vitamins" which Juice scoffs down.

The Sons soon arrive and Darby speaks with Clay, Bobby and Tig. He assumes it is due to the recent rape of a young girl. Darby assures the Sons the Nords have nothing to do with it. Clay mentions a name, Johnny Yates. Darby tells him he is no longer affiliated with the Nords after having his nose broken by Whistler. The Sons mock Darby about the disappearance of Whistler, all but confirming they had something to do with it. Clay convinces Darby to give up some intel on Yates just as Hale arrives. Clay tells them to speak to Trammel to try and find Yates' whereabouts.

The club briefly return to the clubhouse to pick up some of the AK's Juice was handling, unable to find him, they leave without him to confront Yates. They find where Yates is supposed to be, a large house out in the woods with armed guards outside. They attempt to arm up, but find the AK's have no magazines inside of them.

The club subdue the guards and breach the house, where they stumble upon a church group. After speaking to Yates, they realise that he is a changed man and is not the rapist. The club extend their apologies and quickly leave.

Back at the clubhouse, they find Juice unconscious, having eaten all of Tig's pills. Clay says he wants something very special for Juice after his mistake.

Jax returns to the clubhouse with the identity of the rapist, the club return to the carnival and beat up the carnival workers, finally finding the rapist. They escort him to the woods and hold him until Oswald arrives. Oswald arrives with a blade and demands they remove the rapist's trousers. As Clay oversees, he reminds Oswald they had a deal, he must deliver the justice himself. Oswald drops the blade, unable to do it, he quickly flees the scene.

Clay gloves up and does the job himself, castrating the rapist. He passes Jax the blade as they realise it was all about blackmail, they have Oswald's prints on a murder weapon and now they can use it as leverage when they want to do business with him in the future.

Jax pulls Clay aside and demands to know what his plans for SAMCRO are. Clay explains that through Oswald's lucrative business deals, it will bring more tourism to SAMCRO, more people, more cops. All that means that SAMCRO will be flushed out of Charming.

"Patch Over"[]

The club are concerned to learn the ATF is in Charming. Clay states that they don't even know the reason an agent is there, none of SAMCRO have had any legal trouble in over five years. Jax theorises that Hale is responsible as he knew the warehouse was theirs and wasn't able to follow through on it. The club realise they need to get their guns off the property. Jax suggests calling in a favor with "Jury" White, President of the Devil's Tribe Motorcycle Club, an allied MC out in Nevada. The club agree Jax and Bobby will go by themselves.

Half-Sack tells Tig that Gemma gives him a "MILF chubby". Half-Sack isn't aware that Clay is standing right behind him, he says nothing as Half-Sack stammers to change the subject as Clay walks away.

Jax calls Clay to inform him about the Mayan issue. Mayans saw Jax and Bobby entering Nevada, Clay states that they will need some more presence in Nevada, he proposes that they attempt to get Devil's Tribe to patch over, meaning they would become another charter of the Sons. Jax isn't sure Jury will be on board but Clay makes it sound as if they have no choice.

Clay speaks to Half-Sack, Tig and Juice, he states that Devil's Tribe will be patching over to join the Sons. He says the whole club is going up there with their gun supply.

Back inside the Tribe's clubhouse, the rest of SAMCRO have arrived. Clay gives a speech inducting the Tribe in as the Sons of Anarchy, Indian Hills charter. Clay says that every man must decide if they want to patch over or not, the Tribe must talk amongst themselves.

A few Tribe members storm out of the clubhouse, throwing their kuttes on the floor. The Sons head back inside to see that Jury has convinced the majority of his club to patch over.

Inside, Clay watches as Half-Sack takes interest in a woman called Cherry, he dances with her as the pair flirt. Clay soon walks over and takes over, leading Cherry away, he tells Half-Sack that she gives him a "serious chubby".

The following morning Clay receives a call from Jax, telling him that Mayans are on their way to Indian Hills, the club arm up and prepare to fight.

The club are able to hold off the Mayans without any real casualties.

"Giving Back"[]

Jax and Clay head to Stockton State Prison to meet with Otto "Big Otto" Delaney, an imprisoned member of SAMCRO serving a life sentence, who often assists the club with business on the inside. They agree to assist Otto and help out Charles "Chuckie" Marstein, a former employee of the Lin Triad who has double crossed them and is looking for some protection in exchange for some Chinese assets. Jax and Clay agree, Otto to reminds them to kick his share down to Luann Delaney, his wife who is a close friend of Gemma.

Clay returns to the garage and is approached by Gemma, she asks if Kyle Hobart, an excommunicated member of SAMCRO will be allowed to come to the fundraiser tomorrow that she is hosting. Kyle was excommunicated after allowing Opie to be arrested nearly 10 years ago. Clay instantly tells her no, but after some sweet talking from Gemma he agrees to bring the vote to the table, but insists that it won't pass.

At the table, Clay and Jax propose a deal bought to them Otto and Chuckie. Jax explains that they will split the money with Chuckie, 25% to the club, 25% for Otto which will go to Luann. Everyone is in agreement of the deal, despite Bobby explaining it will be dangerous as Henry Lin, the leader of the Lin Triad is ruthless.

Clay brings one more item to the table, April Hobart, a SAMCRO associate has asked for her ex-husband Kyle Hobart to attend Gemma's Taste of Charming fundraiser being held tomorrow. There is some disagreement but Opie is surprisingly happy to allow Kyle to come, stating that Kyle has nothing left in his life after being kicked out of the club and his family leaving him. There is some disagreement but the vote eventually passes.

Clay struggles at the garage by himself, Gemma is usually sorting the paperwork. He overhears Chuckie scaring off a customer after whacking off in front of her.

Clay drags Chuckie back in to the clubhouse and tells him that they are going to get the Chinese money right now, he can't stand having Chuckie around any longer. Clay then tells Piney that there was a car watching them outside the garage and the pair realise it is the Chinese trying to get at Chuckie.

The club make their way to the Chinese restaurant with Chuckie in tow. Jax, Clay and Chuckie head inside and are able to find a bag of cash, they exit and quickly realise a number of other third parties have turned up and are interested in their findings, they pile in to the van and prepare to leave when they are boxed in from all angles as gunshots start flying. In the back of the van everyone hits the floor, inspecting the bag closer, Clay realises that their ill gotten gains aren't quite as lucrative as described. The cash in the bag is minimal and contains plates used for counterfeiting. Clay emerges from the van as Triad members aim guns at SAMCRO. Clay shows them the bag and says he wants to speak to Lin. Lin approaches and explains he is only interested in the plates. Clay and Lin are quickly able to strike a deal, on account of the cops about to show up, the club get $60,000 for the plates and Clay will even throw in Chuckie free of charge for his deceit. Chuckie yells for his life as Bobby hands him over to the Triads.

Back at the clubhouse, the club lure Kyle in to the garage at the prospect of showing him Bobby's vintage motorcycle. As the club circle him, Kyle quickly realises that there is no such things to speak of. Jax demands Kyle remove his shirt, he refuses and Bobby and Tig wrestle it off him, revealing his large SAMCRO back tattoo. Kyle begs for forgiveness, saying it is the only part of the club he still has left. Clay coldly asks Kyle if he would prefer fire or a knife to remove the ink. Kyle accepts his fate and says fire. The club string him up on a car lift as Tig lights a blowtorch, Jax gives Kyle a drink of some whiskey before Jax douses his back in it.

"AK-51"[]

Clay is furious to see Juice return from Nevada with Cherry in tow. Juice states that he couldn't just leave her but Clay is furious nonetheless.

At the table, with the club whole again. Juice has returned from Nevada and Chibs has returned from up North. Chibs brings news about their Irish contacts and explains they need to pay them on time or they will buy from the Russians instead. The Sons will also continue to sell guns to the Niners at a discounted price. Jax and Piney also made a sale of some weapons to a local militia earlier in the day.

Half-Sack suddenly bursts in to Church and tells Clay he is needed outside. The club head outside and find Agent June Stahl of the ATF and Hale. Stahl asks who the owner of the garage is and Clay admits it is him, he is immediately arrested. Clay asks what the charge is and Stahl says he isn't being charged yet, she is just looking for some information about Nate Meineke. Clay states he doesn't know who that is and Stahl informs him that he is responsible for holding up a prison transport and killing three people. The last call on his phone is from TM.

In the interrogation room, Clay tells Stahl that he has no information on Nate or his organisation and she doesn't have any proof he had anything to do with it. Stahl says that Clay's long rap sheet and previous convictions for gun running aren't looking good for him. Clay confidently tells Stahl that the Sons are just a motorcycle club and he hasn't been charged with a crime in over seven years. Stahl says that she will have a warrant to search the clubhouse and garage in a couple of hours. Clay then asks for his lawyer, Stahl says she will get him his phone call in a couple of hours.

Hale is sitting with Clay when suddenly Gemma is bought in, Clay is baffled as to what Gemma could've possibly done and even more so when Hale tells him that he assaulted a woman, Clay stands and heads to the door and begins to yell at Gemma demanding to know what she's done. Gemma attacked the woman that Clay slept with in Nevada.

Clay is eventually freed after the ATF raided the clubhouse and found nothing to formally charge the Sons with. He goes to see Gemma who is still being held in custody after refusing bail, saying that she needs some time to herself. Clay offers to stay at the clubhouse if it means Gemma will go home but she isn't interested. Clay apologises to Gemma for his actions and promises it won't happen again. Clay sits outside the cell, telling Gemma he won't go anywhere without her. Gemma sadly tells Clay she is going through menopause, meaning things are changing. Clay tells Gemma it won't change the love it has for her. Gemma once again tells Clay to leave, saying he can pick her up in the morning, to which he does.

Clay heads up to the cabin with the rest of the club, he is happy to hear that Jax managed to get the guns out of the warehouse and the ATF have uncovered nothing in their search except for the Irish oil barrels which the club receive their guns in, which the club believe could pose a threat if the ATF investigate hard enough. Clay says it won't be a problem once the gun warehouse is rebuilt and they don't need to store anything in the clubhouse anymore. Jax attempts to tell Clay that they are handling the militia but Clay insists Jax will handle it find and heads to bed.

The following day, Clay picks Gemma up from the station, they kiss and seem to forgive each other. Cherry soon arrives much to Clay's dismay but Gemma goes to speak to her. Cherry apologises and says she wants what Gemma and Clay have, only with Half-Sack. Cherry insists she is only there for him.

"Old Bones"[]

At the clubhouse. Half-Sack is boxing with Lowell Harland Jr. a mechanic at TM and a recovering drug addict. The club scheme on entering Half-Sack in a bare knuckle boxing circuit to win some big money for the club to help pay the Irish. Jax tells Bobby and Chibs to train Half-Sack, take $50k and triple it. Half-Sack is now on a strict diet of no weed, booze, or pussy. Clay also tells Bobby to try it on with Cherry, Half-Sack's girlfriend, get Half-Sack real angry for his fights. Jax also informs Tig and Clay that Charming are investigating some bodies that were found on i44 earlier today. Clay says nothing and leaves, confusing Jax.

The trio head to the dig site where Clay and Tig confess that the bodies are the doings of SAMCRO many years ago.

At the table, the club discuss the bodies that were found, to the newer members of the club. Clay explains they are Mayan bodies, if they get ID'd it could bring heat back to the club. They need to stop the bodies getting ID'd or trouble could be brewing.

Half-Sack is informed that he will be boxing for $15k for the Sons. Clay has put him on a diet of no drink, drugs or Cherry, much to Half-Sack's dismay. Cherry will also be staying with Bobby until the fight is over, an agreement neither Half-Sack or Cherry are happy about.

Gemma talks to Clay about the skeletons. Clay assures Gemma that it will be fine, only Tig knows the truth that they aren't all Mayan bodies. Jax speaks to Clay outside the garage and the pair learn that the bodies will be kept at St. Thomas overnight, Clay says to speak to Tara and see if she can assist them in getting to the hospital basement to deal with the bones.

Jax goes to see Clay and finds him with Abel. He passes over the keycard to get them in to the basement and Clay tells him that he and Tig will handle the bones, Jax can run "interference". Jax wants to know why but Tara soon arrives, prompting Clay to exit.

In the basement, Clay and Tig get to work on sorting the bones when Jax suddenly arrives. He insists there was no interference to run and he has come to assist. They begin to pull the teeth from the skulls when Jax realises that the bodies have already been ID'd. One of them belongs to Lowell Harland Sr., Lowell's father. The three stare at each other and Jax realises that Clay and Tig already knew exactly who they were going to find down there.

Jax speaks to Clay after the bodies are dealt with. He wants to know why Lowell, an ally of SAMCRO is buried with Mayans. Clay tells Jax it was a casualty of war and back in the day the Mayans didn't care who they hurt, as long as it also hurt the Sons. Jax tells Clay that Lowell believes his father is still out there to this day. Clay explains that he didn't mean to disrespect Lowell by having him buried with the Mayans, it was a wild time and he didn't have a lot of time to think things through. Jax states that Lowell is going to find out the truth about his father now, Clay says he will handle it.

Clay speaks to Lowell, he tells him the truth about the bodies and wants him to hear it from him first. Lowell is in disbelief, he reiterates to Clay that his dad left when he was young, he isn't dead and Clay even told him as such. Clay explains that he was killed by Mayans, who are also buried with him. Clay says that Hale is eventually going to come and tell Lowell exactly what he has just learned, and he is going to try and convince him the Sons had something to do with it; he shouldn't be misled.

Gemma speaks to Clay about Tara's recent influence over Jax. Clay assures her that he is keeping Jax close. Tig suddenly arrives and says that Lowell has gone missing. Gemma tells Clay that he has always tried to help Lowell since he was a kid, nobody would be surprised if he never came back to Charming.

Clay hunts for Lowell, he eventually finds him in a motel. A high and sporadic Lowell tells Clay he is a liar. Clay finally admits the truth, he says that he did in fact kill his father, he was a terrible person and treated his wife and his son terrible, he was also a rat and deserved to die. Clay says that Lowell is turning in to his father, and his son, Moby will suffer the same fate. Lowell begs for Clay to kill him. Clay places a pillow over Lowell's head and points a gun at it.

Clay arrives at Half-Sack's boxing match. He tells Tig to call Neeta, she is going to be watching Lowell's son for a while. Half-Sack is supposed to take a dive in the next round and win the Sons a big payday. Clay then sits with Cherry, she tells him she isn't interested in Bobby, only in Half-Sack. Clay tells Cherry that she is more than welcome to stick around if Half-Sack patches in. This earns him a kiss on the cheek from Cherry, who is grateful for his kindness. Half-Sack sees this and quickly becomes enraged. Clay stands and yells out for Half-Sack to drop but he pummels his opponent knocking him out. Clay rushes up and apologises to Bobby, Chibs and Tig, admitting it is his fault Half-Sack acted out. The club bail before things get out of hand.

Half-Sack apologises to Clay, Clay sarcastically remarks that at least he got the girl. He does however owe the club $35k according to Chibs.

Tig gets in the van with Clay and Tig realises that Lowell is in the back, very much alive. Clay tells Tig that he is a good mechanic, not wanting to show his true affection for the young man he watched grow up.

Clay arrives home. He tells Gemma that Lowell is still alive, doing "SAMCRO rehab". He says that he told some of the truth to Lowell, but not all, Jax doesn't know the full story. The truth stays buried.

"The Pull"[]

At the table, the club have almost pulled together enough money for the IRA guns, they are very close to the $200k they need. The club briefly discuss the various ways they have pooled together the money before Clay announces they can get the remaining money from Luann, if Gemma talks to her first. She is making a lot of money from the porn industry. Jax also announces that his son is getting out of the hospital today, the club are excited and pleased for Jax.

Jax returns to the clubhouse and informs the club of his crank discovery, he assisted at a roadside accident and discovered the drugs on the driver, he suspects it is the Nords. Juice confirms if it definitely Nord product and Tig says they should teach Darby a lesson. Jax says that he and Opie will go and speak to the driver of the truck and see what he has to say about the meth. Clay says that Luann is also fronting the club $55k, meaning they only need $15k more by the end of the day. Chibs tells Half-Sack that if he ever wants to get patched in, he needs to find them the remaining money.

At the clubhouse, the club mock Half-Sack for stealing an ambulance, claming they can easily sell it for $100k. When asked where he can sell it to, he isn't able to answer, realising the many flaws in his plan. The club laugh at Half-Sack's expense and Clay tells Chibs to get rid of the ambulance after dark. Jax soon arrives, he briefly wonders why there is an ambulance in the garage but upon learning Half-Sack is responsible, he asks no further questions. Clay asks if Jax was able to learn anything from the truck driver, to which he quickly tells them about how he learned the Nords are dealing crank in Pope, where the driver fills up his tanker with diesel, Opie and Jax stole the tanker, and Jax flipped it to Unser at a cheap price. Meaning they now have enough money for the IRA.

Tig and Clay head to meet with the IRA, Jax also learns from Gemma who has just arrives that Abel is coming out of incubation. They split as Tig and Clay make their way to the bar.

At the bar, they briefly speak to the barman who says that McKeavey isn't here, but his cousin, Cameron Hayes is. He assures them he is with the IRA and if he is in the US, he must have something pretty important to say. Tig and Clay sit with Cameron where he informs them that McKeavey is dead. He was killed under orders of Brenan Hefner, the corrupt port commissioner, McKeavey refused to pay him more money and had his goons kill him. The Sons offer to help take care of Hefner but Cameron insists it is personal. He goes to count the money the Sons presented him with to continue their business arrangement.

As the trio drink to McKeavey's life and the Sons and IRA partnership, the bar is attacked, bullets begin to fly as Cameron is shot in the leg whilst the barman is able to put down one of the attackers. As Clay and Tig get their bearings, they realise that Cameron has been shot and is bleeding badly. Tig says they have to get him to a hospital but Cameron says he is wanted in four continents, he cannot go to a hospital. Tig also learns that the attackers were Mayans, meaning the war is very much on.

Chibs, Juice, Jax, Opie and Half-Sack soon arrive after hearing of what went down. The barman says he will take care of the Mayan body whilst the rest of the club get Cameron back to the clubhouse, in Half-Sack's very convenient ambulance.

Outside the bar, Clay, Jax, Tig and Opie talk. Tig says that Alvarez has to have learned about the IRA from Darby, the Mayans and the Nords have teamed up like he predicted weeks ago after the Sons blew up the Mayan warehouse. Tig says they need to get more charters involved and wipe out the Nords and the Mayans for good. Opie and Tig are in agreement. Jax isn't sure, saying SAMCRO aren't ready for a war, they have no cash and no gun surplus, and the ATF is still on their tail. Jax asks Tig and Opie to step away whilst he talks to Clay. Jax tells Clay that he knows he thinks he is distracted and not committed but he isn't he risked his life earlier to get $15k for the club. Jax assures Clay that he is now seeing a bigger picture but his commitment hasn't changed and he is never afraid to get bloody. Clay walks back over to Tig and Opie, saying that dealing with Alvarez it is going to cause an all out war. Opie and Juice need to get in contact with other charters and get their President and Vice President in Charming tomorrow.

As everyone else departs, Tig tells Clay that he doesn't trust Jax and doesn't think he can do what needs to be done when it comes down to it.

Back at the clubhouse, Chibs says that they need real medical tools or Cameron will die, the bullet hit an artery and it being lodged inside of him is the only thing stopping him from bleeding out. Gemma soon arrives and is relieved to see everyone in one piece; Clay informs her that other charters are coming down and the clubhouse needs to be stocked. Jax says that he will speak to Tara and see what medical equipment she can assist them in getting.

That night at the clubhouse, Gemma and Clay watch on as Tig and Opie prepare weapons for the inevitable war.

"Hell Followed"[]

At the clubhouse, Gemma is concerned as they haven't been able to locate Jax last night and today, Gemma wants to try and find him but Clay tells her to stay put. Piney and Opie agree to ride to St. Thomas to see if he may be there. Chibs then enters to inform Clay that he and Juice are still patching up Cameron, but Chibs is concerned he may have sepsis.

Unser arrives at the Sons' clubhouse and informs Clay he needs to bring him down to the station to ask him a few questions, someone made an attempted hit on Darby last night. Unser also says that he found two dead bodies that belonged to Mayans so he knows the Sons have something to do with it, Clay doesn't seem to be too interested in what Unser has to say but he is insistent. Clay walks Unser over to the meeting room in the clubhouse and swings open the door, inside Unser sees Juice and Chibs doing a makeshift operation on a bloody man. Unser is stunned as Clay tells him that the man is a friend and Juice and Chibs are trying to dig bullets out of the man that were meant for Clay; fired by Mayans. Meaning they went after him too so he had nothing to do with Darby. Clay admits that the Mayans were him but they are out of Charming. Unser says the bodies are probably going to bring Stahl back and Clay must come down to the station with him.

Clay talks with Unser and Clay admits that he didn't see the Mayan problem coming, they haven't had any direct beefs in a while. Unser says that he knows the Mayans torched the Sons' warehouse but Clay admits that they are very bold to try and kill him and Darby. Unser orders Clay to stop the bloodsheed, if he kills Alvarez then war will come to Charming and innocents will be hurt. The pair look out the window whilst talking, right on time, backup arrives in the form of a small army of Sons from other charters. Unser is furious but Clay assures him that he can still handle business peacefully; he wants to talk with Alvarez and Darby, the trio can sort something out and make peace, otherwise heads will roll.

Clay and Darby talk in the holding cell, Clay attempts to open dialogue about the Nords and the Mayans allegiance but Darby isn't intersted in talking, earning him a punch in the face from Clay. Darby finally talks, telling Clay that Alvarez was supposed to provide muscle so the Nords could begin pushing crank in Charming, but Alvarez betrayed him. Darby says he is going to kill Alvarez but Clay says Alvarez can't be harmed, Charming will suffer if they do. Clay assures Darby that something will be done, but SAMCRO will handle it.

Alvarez is picked up and bought to the Charming station, he is annoyed when he is thrown in to a holding cell, after being told he is there for questioning. Alvarez is shocked and a little concerned to see Clay waiting inside the cell for him. Clay tells Alvarez that there must be something he isn't seeing, why would Alvarez want to kill him and Darby? Clay tells Alvarez that they are going to make a deal, he wants to sell guns to the Mayans. Alvarez sits, interested by the deal, he tells Clay that he wants to take over the Niners heroin trade, which he can't do without proper arms. Clay quickly shuts down the idea, saying that the Sons and the Niners are still allies and he will continue to sell to them, that being said Alvarez can do what he wants with the guns, as long as the bullets don't touch a Son, all beefs with the Mayans will be settled.

Alvarez then says he is concerned about the ATF, Clay attempts to dismiss this but Alvarez then tells Clay all about the Sons' IRA gun running operation, Clay is stunned that Alvarez knows the dealings of their business. Alvarez says he came across this information as an ATF agent sent Darby the intel on their operation, that was the payment for the hit on Clay. Alvarez tells Clay that he has a compromise which will leave everyone happy.

At the table, Clay addresses SAMCRO and the other charters who have come down. He states that what happened the previous night can never happen again, no more bodies can drop in Charming. Tig speaks up and says that SAMCRO did not attempt to kill the Nords, it was Alvarez who tried to kill Clay and Darby. However, if they retaliate, war is certain. Clay admits that he sat down with Alvarez, causing shock to ripple across the table. Clay says that he made a deal with Alvarez, the Sons will sell guns to the Mayans and all beefs will be ended, in Charming and out of state, no Sons will have issues with Mayans anymore. Juice enquires about the Sons deal with the Niners and selling guns to them, but Jax insists they have no real loyalty to the Niners and they also buy guns from other sources. Bobby admits he has concern that a deal with the Mayans could trigger something else with the Niners. Tig says that the Mayans still tried to kill him but Clay says that debt will be settled too, by another charter, he asks if Happy will do the deed and he of course agrees. The club vote on the deal and the majority are on board.

As the peace celebration rages on, another matter is bought to the rest of the club by Juice and Chibs. Cameron has stated that Hefner needs to die before Monday, or the most recent gun shipment will be taken. Cameron has offered the inital payment back and a free month of guns if SAMCRO handle it. The club briefly debate it but realise the pros outweigh the cons and the hit must be done. Opie is quick to step up, insisting that he can get it done. Clay agrees, Jax, Opie and Bobby are to carry out the hit. As everyone else departs, Bobby stays behind as Clay tells him that Opie must be the one to do the killing, to prove he wants back in the club.

"Better Half"[]

Now recovering under protection of SAMCRO, Cameron is hiding out in a cabin owned by the Sons in the mountains. Gemma arrives with some groceries for him. Clay calls Gemma and she assure him that Cameron is fine, Clay then says that Stahl is back in town and as a result, he is going to get Happy to come down from Nevada to smuggle Cameron out of the US.

Opie approaches Clay and Bobby, he asks if he can get his money for the Hefner job, as he is 2 mortgage payments behind. Clay and Bobby agree but Clay presses Opie and asks if he is doing okay, he insists he is, just some family issues.

At the table, the club, joined by Unser who has been kicked out of his office to make way for the ATF discuss the recent return of Stahl. So far she has had Luann arrested on drug charges and Cherry on theft and arson. Unser says that Stahl is trying to use the RICO act to bring down the club, which will affect all of them, hence why he is sitting at the table. Jax says that Tara will never turn on the club and they have nothing to worry about regarding her. Bobby says that they can't get through to Otto, they have him on federal watch and he isn't allowed any phone calls. Jax theorises that Stahl is pressing Otto for history and using Luann as leverage. The club begin to grow concerned, knowing that Otto would do anything for Luann and Cherry also knows a lot of information about Indian Hills. The club devise a plan to use Unser and get Jax and Opie in to the police station to pass a message to Luann to warn Otto about Stahl using the RICO act, as the pair will most likely be allowed to see each other as some sort of leverage deal. They will also work on finding out where Cherry is. Clay, running out of ideas quickly agrees to Jax's plan, as does everyone else.

At the clubhouse the club make plans to get Cherry, who was unexpectedly rescued from the police station by Jax the previous night and Cameron out of the country. They will use one of Unser's trucks with electronics on board to make it look legit. Happy will drive the truck. Happy tells Clay that his mother is unwell and he is most likely going to leave the Tacoma charter and go Nomad so that he can spend more time with her. Clay tells Happy there is always a seat at the SAMCRO table if he wants it. Unser notes that Happy "seems like a nice fella", causing Clay to spit out his shot of whisky.

"Capybara"[]

Clay receives a call from the SAMCRO lawyer, he announces that Luann is clear of any charges, but Otto isn't. In a final meeting with Stahl, he attacked her, smashing her face in to a table and breaking her nose, proving he is loyal to the club. The celebration is very short lived as suddenly Juice sees an army of armed police at the front door of the clubhouse, within seconds Stahl has strutted in as the club are forced to the floor. Bobby is grabbed and told he is under arrest for the murder of Hefner.

At the table, the club is very concerned about Bobby being arrested, Jax insists he is sure there was no witness and nobody could've seen them carrying out the murder. The club notice the mysterious absence of Opie and minds begin to race as Tig states that only two other people saw the murder, one is in jail and the other is in the wind. This causes Jax to jump to his feet as he and Tig almost begin to fight at Tig's accusation. Piney also steps up, saying Opie isn't here is because he doesn't know what is going on. Jax heads out to find him.

Juice arrives to speak to Clay and Tig with some disturbing news, he has just checked out Opie's bank records and seen that a large chunk of his debt has been paid off with a federal wire transfer. Clay tells Juice to not say a word to anyone else about his discovery. Juice is sent away and Tig immediately jumps to the conclusion that Opie sold Bobby out but Clay isn't so fast, saying that it could be a con from Stahl to make the club believe Opie did.

Jax speak with Clay and Tig, he tells them what he has learned and is then shown a copy of Opie's financial records, showing that his debt has been paid off by federal wire transfer. Jax immediately says that it is a setup but Tig still isn't convinced, he theorises that the ATF has been chipping away at Opie ever since he got out of prison and this is their big offer, to give him a new debt-free life in exchange for the club. Clay sends Tig out tells Jax that he doesn't want to believe what looks to be the truth but they may need to prepare themselves for it. Jax says that if Opie is a rat, he will kill him himself.

The following day, Jax receives word that Opie has left the federal facility and wants to speak to the club about what happened, Clay assures Jax that Opie will be allowed to say his piece and no harm will come to him. Clay and Tig then leave to speak to the SAMCRO lawyer about Bobby.

Tig and Clay meet with Rosen, Rosen tells them that the US attorney won't disclose the names of the witness to Hefner's killing. Rosen continues saying that Stahl spoke to Bobby and knows that Jax was also at the hit, but Bobby says that whoever saw him could never have seen Jax who was driving the getaway car. Only Opie could've possibly known and must have ratted, Rosen theorises that Opie was released to get further information on the killing to seal the deal and he is probably wired up.

Jax meets up with Opie as the pair are going to travel to the clubhouse to clear Opie's name. They arrive at the clubhouse and everyone is happy to see Opie, they head in to Church. Clay sends Tig outside to scan Opie's truck and phone for bugs as Rosen suggested. Opie speaks, telling the table that Stahl tried to set him up as a rat, he doesn't know who the witness is but it isn't him. Donna Winston was also targeted but she turned down Stahl's deal, wanting to stay loyal to Opie. Tig then enters as Opie finishes his piece, he asks if he is good with the club and Clay confirms he is, banging the gave as everyone stands to leave except for Tig and Clay. Tig delivers the devastating news that Opie's phone and truck were both wired, he has turned on the club. Clay says that they need to vote on it but Tig says they don't need to, the pair of them can handle it quietly and nobody will ever find out. They are going to kill Opie. Jax enters the room and Clay says he was just telling Tig what Opie said as Tig quickly exits. Jax asks Clay if he really believes Opie and Clay confirms that he does, leading Jax out of the room to the party in the clubhouse.

"The Sleep of Babies"[]

Tig and Clay finalise their plan to kill Opie today, they note that they need to be careful as he is probably wired up.

Clay heads to the police station and barges in on Stahl and Agent Smith, pushing pash Smith and demanding to speak to Stahl. Clay mocks Stahl, telling her that she has no evidence on any of them and all the plays she is making are desparation plays, arresting Bobby, assaulting the clubhouse, trying to turn Opie and she deserves everything that she got from Otto.

At the table, Clay expresses concern about the club's current lack of cash. If they need to fund Bobby's legal defense, they are in trouble. He suggests selling the club's personal gun surplus to the Mayans and there is a level of disagreement. Clay says that if they sell the Mayans the guns, it will appear as a goodwill gesture and they will get a good payout. Jax protests but Clay admtis he is out of ideas. They formulate a plan and will do the deal in two separate locations, Tig and Opie drop off the guns in one location and Jax and Clay pick up the cash in another. Piney wants in also but Clay refuses, causing Piney to angrily storm out of Church. Tig and Clay are going to use the separation as a chance for Tig to kill Opie.

Clay and Tig meet with Laroy. Clay tells Laroy that he is going to sell some guns to the Mayans and explains the details of the deal. Clay wants Laroy to help him in killing Alvarez and he gets the guns and money for himself, he also tells Laroy that he knows he has been buying guns from the Russians for a big price markup. Laroy is evidently intertested, asking what type of weapons, the pair shake on it with Clay telling Laroy to ensure SAMCRO is clear before the bodies start dropping. As Clay and Tig walk away, Tig admits to Clay he is unsure of his plan but Clay insists they can use the chaos to kill Opie and make it look like a casualty of gang violence.

Clay and Jax meet with Alvarez to drop off the guns, Alvarez sends one of his guys to get the money to pay SAMCRO when suddeny the Niners arrive, bodies begin dropping as bullets start flying. Alvarez is shot in the leg as Jax and Clay dive for cover. Jax makes a dash for the van and is able to get in to it, backing up to allow Clay to jump in, the pair speed off, leaving Alvarez behind.

Everyone regroups at the clubhouse as Tig, Clay, Jax and Opie discuss that both parties were jumped by Niners at their collection points. The club are in a real rough spot with no money and no guns. Jax and Opie head out as Jax needs to pick Abel up from the hospital. Tig and Clay discuss Laroy's double-cross of them and Tig tells Clay that he couldn't get a clear shot on Opie. They make another plan, imagining the Niners take their rage to Charming after seeing Opie's truck and gun him down in a drive-by. Clay tells Tig it is their last chance and it has to be tonight after Jax's party.

At Abel's coming home party, Opie and his family prepare to leave, Tig and Clay make eye contact as Tig knocks back his drink and quickly leaves, preparing to get ahead of Opie's truck to take him out.

Clay exits the house to find Unser outside, he tells him that he has some information about Opie and the ATF. Clay's head starts to spin as Unser tells Clay that the mystery witness is someone who lives in Hefner's building, the ATF has also been bugging Opie's truck and phone, essentially, Opie is completely innocent. Clay desperately calls Tig, knowing the hit needn't go through but he is unable to get through to him. Clay heads inside and Gemma approaches him, seeing him in distress. Clay's face falls as he knows there is nothing he can do, Tig is going to kill Opie.

With news of a shooting, SAMCRO race downtown, they find Donna dead. Clay is horrified, knowing he and Tig are responsible. Clay speaks to Unser, demanding to know what they know. Unser says a witness saw a black SUV but couldn't identify the driver. Unser comments to Clay that the brutality was probably meant for Opie and it appears someone has made a "tragic mistake" alluding to the fact that he knows Clay had something to do with the execution.

Gemma and Clay are later seen comforting each other at home.

"The Revelator"[]

Clay and Gemma discuss the death of Donna, Gemma asks if it was Clay's doing and Gemma is devastated when he confirms it. Clay breaks down and sobs to Gemma as she tries to encourage him that they can still fix things. Clay dons his kutte and heads out.

At the table tensions run high for obvious reasons. Clay tells the table that he is responsible, organising the deal with the Mayans that led to Donna's demise, others speak up and say they all agreed on the deal. Piney says they track down Laroy and kill him and becomes enraged at Clay, saying if it happened to him there would be instant retaliation, Piney leaves and Jax goes after him.

Rosen drops by to speak to SAMCRO, he says the name of the witness is being released and the ATF is presenting evidence agaisnt Opie for his part in the murder of Hefner, he expects it to be a resident or neighbor that saw the hit and if Opie comes in, he probably won't be leaving again. Clay reminds Rosen that Donna'a funeral is tomorrow and Rosen says he will do what he can to delay and reminds Clay that his payment is due soon. The club decide they need to deal with the witness before they can testify against Opie or Bobby. They realise the witness is under watch 24/7 and it will not be easy getting to them. The club agree they will contact Trammel to try and get information about safehouses in San Joaqiun. Jax receives a call from a frantic Half-Sack who has been tailing Piney, he tells Jax that Piney is heading in to a Niners bar, probably looking for Laroy, another issue for SAMCRO's ever growing list of problems. Jax and Chibs head out to retrieve him whilst Tig, Juice and Clay go and speak to Trammel.

The trio track down Trammel and he is so taken aback by their request for trying to kill a federal witness he actually laughs at them, telling them no amount of money would be enough. Clay lays it out for Trammel, if the witness lives, they all go down, including their associates, meaning him. Trammel all but agrees, telling them they will need a case number and the witness name will not be enough.

They try Oswald, believing him to have insider information, Clay threatens Oswald with the knife that has his prints on that killed the carnival worker months ago, saying it would be a slam dunk case against Oswald. Oswald wants to know what Clay wants, he explains he needs information that judges would have access to.

They hang around at Oswald's ranch and Tig tells Clay that he had the opportunity to kill Opie yesterday at the warehouse when the Niners attacked but couldn't do it. Tig laments saying he could only shoot through the truck window because he couldn't see his face. Clay hugs Tig, telling him that he puts so much on him and forgets how much it must affect him sometimes. Clay assures Tig they will get past it. Juice and Oswald soon return with the case number they are looking for. Juice says that he called Happy who knows an "alarming" about about safehouses and witnesses, Juice explains what Happy said about security and Tig jumps in saying that he, Chibs and Happy will do the hit, assuring Clay he will be fine. Juice is ordered to get the case number to Trammel and find that safehouse as soon as possible.

Upon Clay's return Gemma tells Clay that Jax knows the truth about Donna, she takes out JT's manuscript and shows Clay, saying this is how JT is brainwashing Jax from beyond the grave. Both are shaken up about what could happen if Jax finds out the truth about JT. Clay is enraged, telling Gemma that Jax already burned half the book and there is nothing for him to know about Donna, she is only concerned about herself and storms out.

Clay meets with Jax in Church and Jax asks Clay again to tell him the truth about Donna, did Clay have anything to do with trying to kill Opie. Clay denies this, telling Jax he would never try and hurt Donna or Opie. Jax stands to leave, Clay tells him that doubt fractures a charter and they need to put it behind them. Clay exits to find Jax speaking to Juice about the witness, Juice reveals to them that it is a 17 year old girl, Jax immediately takes off as Clay yells for him to come back.

The following day, the club ride with Donna's funeral procession to the graveyard. Many associates, friends and family are also present. Jax arrives late, looking worse for wear, Tara stands and places his kutte on him, before kissing him passionately. Jax briefly pays his respects to Donna before taking off.

The clubhouse is raided and Bobby is arrested for the murder of Brenan Hefner. Clay and Tig incorrectly suspect Opie of being the witness that identified Bobby. While Opie is at the clubhouse, Tig checks his car for bugs and discovers a microphone. He also finds a recording device in his mobile phone. Both were planted by the ATF without Opie's knowledge. Clay and Tig decide to kill him.

They meet with One-Niners leader Laroy, and discuss taking out the Mayans. They agree that the Sons will meet the Mayans for an arms deal, leave and then the Niners will eliminate the Mayans and take the guns as payment.

Clay, Tig, Opie, and Jax meet Alvarez and his crew at a warehouse in Oakland. The Niners strike earlier than agreed and shoot at the Mayans and SOA. The Sons escape, but a number of Mayans and Niners are killed in the shoot-out. Tig attempts to kill Opie during the havoc, but found himself unable to do so.

After a homecoming party for Jax's son Abel Teller, Tig follows Opie's car home and shoots the driver dead. However, Opie's wife, Donna Winston is behind the wheel. Just after Tig leaves, Clay is approached by Wayne Unser and told that Opie is not an informant and was set up by the ATF. Clay tries to phone Tig to tell him, but Tig was not carrying his phone.

Rosen, the club's lawyer, meets with Clay to tell him that the ATF have put an arrest warrant out for Opie and that he is likely to be convicted of Hefner's murder because of the witness. Clay, Tig and Juice meet with Sheriff Trammel and offer him money to reveal the location of the witness. Trammell doesn't know, so they approach Elliot Oswald. They again blackmail him with the knife, this time to get his friends in the US Attorney's office to tell him the witness' case number and location. Clay sends Chibs, Happy, and Tig to kill the witness at a safe house in San Joaquin. Jax goes to the safe house to stop them, instead threatening the witness into leaving the state. At Church, Jax confronts Clay and asks if he killed Donna and Clay denies it. Donna's funeral is attended by Sons from all over the country. Jax and Clay's baleful stares made it clear that the club was coming apart from inside.

Season 2[]

In the first episode of Season Two we see that Clay still has no remorse for what he did to Donna and that he's going head to head with Jax over the death of Donna. We see him giving Opie a fake story of how a Mayan MC member killed Donna and he throws a welcome back party for Bobby. When Ethan Zobelle and the L.O.A.N. start threatening members of SAMCRO, Clay is all for immediate retaliation, but he is at odds with Jax who feels the club may be walking into a trap.

He has recently learned of his wife Gemma's rape at the hands of L.O.AN. and settled his differences with Jax, so the two could work together to get revenge. Clay is now shown to be a lot more in tune with Jax's method of operation, opting to do more recon work before entering potentially lethal situations.

In the season two finale, Clay neglected to inform Marcus Alvarez that Ethan Zobelle was an F.B.I. informant, knowing the Mayan leader would kill Zobelle himself forfeiting Clay the opportunity to do the deed. Later in the episode, the Sons ambushed the Mayan convoy containing Zobelle and Clay spared Alvarez's life. Clay and the others cornered Zobelle in a deli, but Clay decided to abandon the scene when he learned of his grandson's kidnapping. He was last seen consoling his distraught stepson Jax, whose son Abel was kidnapped by IRA gun dealer Cameron Hayes.

Season 3[]

CLAY

In the first episodes we see that Clay is still saddened by the loss of Abel, and is willing to help Jax at all cost. Also his arthritis continues to worsen as shown in the episode "Home" that it got so bad that Jax had to tie Clays hands to the handlebars. In the episode "Turas", when SAMCRO are nearly killed by a bomb hidden in a gun shipment put there by the SAMBEL Vice President, Jax has a shell-shocked vision of his biological father speaking to him but it turns out to actually be Clay.

In the episode "Fírinne", Clay kills Keith McGee, member of the First 9 and President of the Belfast Chapter for his treachery against the club by pushing him off a roof after taking his cut. He later burns the cut after expressing remorse for the killing. In the Season 3 finale when Clay learns of Jax's betrayal he appears enraged and saying Jax will die. In the end it is revealed that he knew of Jax's deal with Stahl and that it was part of a plan to execute Jimmy O and Stahl. When the plan is done Clay and the others share a laugh, much to the confusion of the ATF agents. Also in the end of the episode, as Tara is reading John Teller's letters to Maureen Ashby, John Teller says he fears that Clay and Gemma will kill him, leading to much speculation that Clay and Gemma killed John Teller.

Season 4[]

Clay is seen as one of the many SAMCRO members released from prison. He later escapes their sheriff tail and accompanies Jax and Opie's meeting with the Russians and settles their differences and form a partnership with them. He attends Opie's wedding and goes to test a new gun given to them by Putlova. As he's firing the gun he turns and shoots Putlova's bodyguards and Jax stabs Putlova to death as revenge for trying to kill him in prison. He also tells Gemma that his arthritis has gotten worse and that he has only 1 or 2 years left before he has to step down as President of SAMCRO.

While in prison, he set up a deal to run cocaine for the Galindo Cartel but this does not sit well with the other members of the club. When the club goes to Arizona and meets the Tucson charter, SAMTAZ, he demands that the charter stop dealing meth. This request is denied.

Otto wants Luann's murderer dead, and the issue is raised in the chapel.

Clay is then confronted by Piney, who threatens Clay that if Clay does not kill the cocaine deal with the Galindo Cartel, Piney will distribute letters to the club about John Teller's murder. Clay discusses the threat with Gemma, revealing that Clay did kill John Teller. A perspective of the situation is that Jax would kill Clay if he found out that Clay killed his father while bedding his wife. Note that Clay never directly admits to the murder, he is more so explaining the thought process Jax would have on the situation after reading the letters.

Clay later meets Unser and obtains the letters from him, unaware that Gemma has the same plan. After Unser gets a copy of the letters, he confronts Clay. Clay replies he does not regret doing what he did because it protected the Club and Charming.

When he visits a tied Georgie Caruso, he claims that he has connections with millionaire Japanese people. Clay immediately sees an opportunity to make Jacob Hale believe he has investors in time. His idea is that he will have the investors pull out at the last minute, which will put an end to Charming Heights.

After retrieving the last brick of cocaine that Juice had stolen framing it into Miles, Clay asks Romeo for help killing Tara, to keep the secret of the letters hidden.

Clay's sponsor was Piney, who was the one that let Clay patch SAMCRO. After discussing trust issues and differences in the cabin, Clay leaves only to break down the door knocking Piney off his feet. Piney begs Clay not to get Tara involved in the letters from JT. Clay shoots Piney in the chest with a shotgun killing him. This makes Piney the 3rd member of the First 9, and the 2nd and final co-founding member of the Sons of Anarchy to be killed at the hands of Clay (as Piney and John Teller co-founded the club, which were both ultimately killed by Clay). He leaves the markings of the cartel to make it seem like they were responsible for the murder.

Given the difficult circumstances of the club, Clay calls to the Irish Kings for a meeting to set a new deal that lets them survive the war against Lobos Sonora. He later finds out that the One Niners have been dealing with the Sonora and the Sons plan an attack using the Niners to lure them, this fails however as Sonora's men were equipped with grenade launchers.

Luis, Romero's right hand man gives Clay a cellphone with his contact to kill Tara.

Clay is confronted by Jax when he hears from Bobby that Clay wanted Bobby instead of Opie as president as was the deal, and says it is Tara's fault that Jax changed, but Jax warns him to never insult her again.

Gemma tells him that Tara will not reveal the letters to Jax out of fear that he will get deeper into the club out of guilt and promises to Gemma he won't hurt Tara. However, he uses the cellphone given by Luis, and the next morning pays the contact 25,000 dollars for the Volkswagen Beetle. Not knowing that Jax and the babies were with her, he desperately tries to stop the hit, but is unsuccessful and Tara has her left hand broken during a fight. Clay meets Romeo and gets a refund, with Romeo taking the matter on his hands personally, and Clay reluctantly agrees that Tara is best dead.

Gemma confronts Clay about the hit and a violent fight ensues between the two, with Clay getting injured but severely beating Gemma's face. That night he decides to sleep in the clubhouse,in the next episode Call of Duty Jax confronts Clay about about Gemma's beating he tells him it's between him & her & to keep his nose out of his business, Jax responds by saying that this is not over.

After Tig sees Gemma's bruised face and knew it was Clay he then turns in his Sergeant at Arms patch to Clay. In the episode Burnt and Purged Away, Opie later finds out that Clay was behind the death of Piney and seeks out revenge ending the episode by shooting Clay twice in the chest.

Beatenclay

Gemma checking on a defeated Clay after Jax left Clay's room.

In "To Be, Act 1", Clay survives the shooting as he is rushed to the hospital and is in critical condition and goes into surgery, Clay is then hooked up to an intensive care unit after coming out of surgery, Gemma then reveals the truth to Jax except her involvement in how John Teller really died, and he finds out that Clay had Teller killed and that he killed Piney and he also finds out that Clay put out a hit on Tara.

After Jax reads the letter he vows to kill Clay. Tara then gives him a syringe full of blood thinner to inject into Clay's I.V., which will end his life. The episode ends with Clay still in the hospital and still in intensive care.

Jax holding a knife to Clay's neck

In "To Be, Act 2", Jax visits Clay in the hospital. He holds a knife to Clay's throat and tells him he read the letters and he knows he put the hit on Tara. Jax does not kill Clay, because he needs him alive for the I.R.A. deal to go down. Clay is about to tell Jax something but Jax tells Clay he is done telling him anything. Jax then tells Clay that he (Clay) is stepping down as President. He'll be allowed to sit at the table and get a vote, but that's all. Jax tells Clay to keep the Irish happy and to stay out of his way or he will show the club the letters and let Opie tell everyone he killed Piney. Jax also warns him to stay away from Tara and Gemma. He then cuts the President's patch off of Clay's cut. Clay suggests Jax kill him, but he tells him he is already dead and spits in his face.

Season 5[]

Clay is shown to have gotten out of the hospital, but requires an oxygen tank due to his lung injury. He is shown trying to make amends with Gemma, but she coldly brushes him off. He later reveals to the club that he murdered Piney, but states that Piney was drunk and tried to kill him first, and Opie found out, and shot him. The club's rules (due to having him killed a member) means they must vote on kicking him out. When Jax questions him on his motives for telling the club, he denies any. His arthritis is shown to have reached the point to when he can't ride his bike at all.

He later goes to his and Gemma's burglarized house, where he expresses concern over his safe being stolen. He then visits Opie, and convinces him not to walk away from the club because of him, seeing as though he's "half dead already". He later finds out where Gemma has been going from Juice. He goes to the brothel and confronts Nero, the owner, and Gemma's new suitor. He then makes it seem like he had sex with a young prostitute to anger Gemma, however it was later revealed that Clay only asked her to rub his neck. She then attacks the girl, causing her to leave. When Nero's operation is later shut down, and he and Gemma are arrested, it's likely Clay was behind it.

The next episode, "Small World", shows Clay having recovered to the point of no longer needing his oxygen tank, though he continues to wear it (either for sympathy or to keep people off guard). He later helps Gemma take care of a dead body (Nero's half sister Carla), and the two seem to be on better terms. At the end of the episode, he confronts the three Nomads for responsible for the Charming burglaries, and the death of Sheriff Roosevelt's wife Rita. He punches one in the face exclaiming "Idiots! You weren't supposed to kill her!" This shows Clay to have been pulling the strings behind the home invasions.

The next episode, Toad's Wild Ride, reveals the Nomads (GoGo, Greg and Frankie) made a deal with Clay to get back at the head of the table in exchange for Clay's share of the guns and cocaine money. The break-ins were Clay's way of turning Charming against Jax. When Unser (who has been investigating the break-ins) comes close to discovering the truth, GoGo and Greg meet with Clay to discuss killing him, when Frankie goes underground. Clay meets with Unser in his trailer to talk about the friendship between them. When GoGo and Greg break in Unser's door, Unser shoots GoGo with his double barreled shotgun, and Clay betrays them, shooting Greg in the head with his pistol. When Juice (who saw GoGo and Greg go to Unser's trailer) asks Clay what is happening, Clay denies involvement. Jax and the rest of the club find out about their attack on Unser, and Jax privately accuses Clay of using the Nomads to undermine his leadership. Clay states that Damon Pope is the one who hired the Nomads. Jax claims they'll find Frankie & learn the truth.

In "Ablation", Clay visits Gemma, Abel, and Thomas in the hospital after a marijuana induced car crash. He tells Jax that a truck ran her off the road to protect her. When Jax learns about the lie, he tells Clay why he lied, and that Gemma is dead to his family, and that he wants to take care of her.

In "Andare Pescare", the club is shown discovering that Frankie is hiding with a Mafia family, paying them money stolen from Nero. They take a unanimous vote after extracting the information they need. When Clay leans from Jimmy Cacuzza the location of the Mafia safehouse in which Frankie is hiding, Clay and Juice go there to kill him to keep him from outing Clay (Juice acting under the pretense scouting it out), when Frankie barricades himself in the house and shoots at the two. Clay drives the van into the tank, blowing up the house. Just as Clay is about to kill Frankie, Jax and the others show up, having seen the explosion. However, Frankie is quickly gunned down by the enraged Mafia Don for killing one of his men before he can tell them anything he wants to tell them. Bobby later asks Clay if there's anything he wants to tell him (implying he also knows about his dealings with the Nomads). When Clay claims his conscience is clear, Bobby states "I hope you're as smart as you think you are, cause I'm sick of burning friends". The episode ends with Gemma helping Clay with his cortisone shots.

In Crucifixed, Clay is seen negotiating with Romeo and Luis for protection, as once the RICO case is gone, he will no longer need Clay, and will most likely kill him. Romeo suggests getting rid of Jax, and putting Clay back at the head of the table. Clay does not agree to the deal, to which Romeo states, "Yes you will". Later, Gemma and Clay draw closer at Clay's place, where Gemma insists they return home. They are lasting seen sitting on their bed, where Clay confesses he can't bear losing her again. Gemma kisses him passionately, and they sink into bed.

The next episode, To Thine Own Self, shows Clay learning of Otto's murder of a nurse, ending the RICO case. He is shown, for unknowns reasons, trying to save Jax from Romeo, and warns him to work with the Cartel long enough to make the club legitimate and leave. He refuses stating "I'm done bowing down to greedy men who have nothing to believe in". When Jax reveals a new deal to the Club, which would allow the Mayans and the Triads to take over mulling the cocaine and selling big guns (respectively), Clay votes yes along with everyone else. He is later shown moving legal documents given to him by the Nomads to another location, to protect himself from the Club finding out the important evidence of his betrayal. The end of the episode shows Bobby going to Clay and Gemma's house to talk to him about "Trying to keep you alive".

In the next episode, Darthy, Clay has been voted out of the club after revealing all that he had done to them. After this, Jax beats him badly. He is last seen with Happy, removing his SAMCRO tattoos on his back and arm by smudging them over with ink.

In the season finale, J'ai Obtenu Cette, Clay is shown in his home sipping coffee with his blacked out SOA tattoos and his handgun. At TM, Juice is eyeing Clay warily as he packs up his stuff. Juice hovers near a bike, putting something in the storage compartment. After Gemma sends Chuckie off to run some errands, Clay tells Gemma he's leaving with Galen for Ireland at 4:30 P.M. Gemma tells him her suitcase is in the car. He promises her a fresh start in Belfast. She'll meet him at 3 P.M.

At TM, Clay tells Juice he knows he's the one who found the legal stuff in the vent. Juice apologizes, but Clay says it didn't end up mattering. "I love you Brother," Clay says hugging him. Juice's guilt eats at him. He pulls away, and tells Clay he should leave now. There's a knock at the door, and it's Roosevelt with Clay's silver .45 ACP pistol in an evidence bag. He tells him it was used to kill Pope and three of his associates. He asks for Clay's alibi. Clay says Gemma can confirm it. Gemma says nothing for a long time. "He went out for a few hours, took the gun. Said he had to settle up some accounts before he left. I didn't think he'd kill anyone," she says. Clay says nothing as he realizes he's been betrayed. Juice crumbles as Clay is arrested. After they leave, Gemma lets out a deep breath. Clay is transported to jail, broken and alone, surrounded by threats.

Season 6[]

At the beginning of the season, Clay is being held in protective custody after his arrest for Damon Pope's murder. Clay is visited by retired U.S. Marshall Lee Toric, the brother of the nurse Otto Delaney killed. Toric who has sworn revenge against the motorcycle club, tells Clay he can only remain in protective custody if he cooperates in building a case against SAMCRO. Clay initially refuses, but after being transferred to general population and realizing he is certain to be murdered in retaliation for two deaths, he agrees to help Toric. He is returned to protective custody. He later demands a sit-down with Gemma and Jax before he signs the deal. He meets with Gemma and seems apologetic, although Gemma suspects he has ulterior motives. He meets Jax and tells him he will not work for Toric, and apologies. In response to this, he is shipped to Stockton where he is attacked by three black inmates, but they spare him and offer him a shank. He later uses it to kill a member of the Neo-Nazi group and to get protection from the black gang. He is visited once more by Toric, who shows him the brutalized Otto. Clay sneaks Otto a shank and leaves him. Despite threats that he will meet the same fate, Clay refuses to sign Toric's papers. Toric is later killed by Otto with the shank Clay gave him and Otto is killed by the guards in response.

Following the fallout between Jax and the IRA, Clay is contacted by Galen O'Shay with the opportunity to continue as the main weapon distributor for their main North California territory. The IRA will arrange to have Clay escape from the prison transport on his way to his hearing. He will retreat to Belfast and build his own crew. Clay requests a visit with Gemma, so that he can have her relay this information to Jax. He pays off two guards to allow him to chat with Gemma, but when the visit is over the guards demand to watch Clay and Gemma have sex while they masturbate. They threaten to have Clay killed and Gemma grudgingly agrees to do it. In Aon Rud Persanta Clay's transport date is moved up. Galen enlists SANCRO to assist in attacking his transport truck to free him. During the attack Bobby is shot by the transport officer. After arriving at the warehouse with the rest of SAMCRO, Clay approaches Juice and thanks him for his help with a warm embrace. After meeting up with the Irish, Galen greets Clay, remarking that they have a lot of work ahead of them. After being thanked by Galen for delivering Clay, Jax promptly shoots him in the head and kills him as the rest of SAMCRO slaughters his crew.

Clay and Gemma's last moments

Clay gives Gemma a farewell kiss on the cheek.

Although initially shocked, Clay follows Jax and the rest of the crew out of the office after being informed that the club had voted to kill Galen and his men. Gemma, Nero and Tara arrive shortly after. Remarking to a bitter and indifferent Gemma that he didn't expect to see her so soon, Gemma asks Clay if they're sending him to Belfast, which Clay denies and informs his wife that the plans had changed. Clay then asks Jax what his next move is, who tells Clay that they plan to settle with the Irish.

Clay's death

Clay lies dead after being shot and killed by Jax.

Sceptical, Clay asks Jax how he intends to do that with three dead bodies in the other room, as Jax asks Clay what he'd do. Clay tells Jax that the smart thing to do would be to make it look like Galen got into a skirmish with someone he had history with, which is a situation that couldn't be helped, which Jax coldly agrees with. Noticing the solemn expressions of everybody around him, Clay quickly realizes that the club intends to kill him, and asks Jax if they had another vote he was unaware of. Jax confirms this, and Clay accepts his fate. Following them into the office where the bodies of Galen and his crew were, Clay cooperates and braces himself for death, briefly looking out the window at Gemma one last time. Jax then shoots Clay in the throat - much to Gemma's horror, which causes him to bleed out and fall to the floor while everyone sorrowfully looks on. Jax finishes off Clay by shooting him multiple times in the chest. He and the rest of the crew later arrange the bodies to make it look like Clay had a falling out with the Irish and they all died in a shoot out.

Clay was later buried in Stockton Prison by two unnamed prisoners, presumably because his remains were never claimed by his family. Besides Wayne Unser, nobody close to Clay had attended the burial.

Murders Committed[]

Motorcycle[]

Clay's motorcycle is a 2008 Harley Davidson Dyna Super Glide with a forward facing canon air filter, taped thunder header exhaust and a 96 cubic inch twin cam motor. On his fuel tank is the reaper and both the top and bottom rockers of his charter. Clay's reaper design is similar to the one on Jax's bike. Clay has custom T-Bars and high risers for his handlebars. Like most of the SAMCRO motorbikes he has the drag fairing on the front.

Trivia[]

  • Due to his Celtic cross tattoo and his surname; Clay is possibly of Irish descent.
  • Clay is the fourth main character to die in the series.
  • Clay appeared in all episodes of the series until Sweet and Vaded, in which he did not appear. He would be absent for the following episode as well, finally reappearing in the episode after that, John 8:32. He would appear in the next two episodes, with his last appearance being Aon Rud Persanta. Due to his death, he has been absent from every episode since then, although his grave was seen being filled in during the beginning of A Mother's Work, with the only attendants being a priest, the two convicts burying him and Wayne Unser.
  • Clay's grave was seen in the final episode of the sixth season. He was buried in a prison cemetery, indicating that his body went unclaimed. The inscription only included his name, which was erroneously listed as "Clay" instead of "Clarence", and his inmate number: SSCF 396784.
  • Originally, actor Scott Glenn was cast as Clay.
  • Clay has murdered at least two of the First 9, and attempted to kill another. The two he killed being Keith McGee and Piney Winston, while he orchestrated the death of John Teller.
  • Ron Perlman would also go on to portray Tom "Rust" Bishop in 2013 video game Payday 2, who is also an outlaw biker and clearly a reference to Clay. In the 2016 teaser trailer introducing the character, Rust kills another biker played by Andrew McPhee, who portrays McGee.
